I made a friend of mine a CD 'mixtape' a few years back (way before ipods lol) with a brilliantly funny picture of her on the cover. She loved it, in fact she text me not long ago to say she'd been listening to in the car. It must have been 10 years ago, I can't think of any other presents that I've been thanked for so long after giving them.

I think if you make the cd's a bit of a variety (rather than just a copy of one thing) and make some individual covers, this would be a fantastic idea.

I'm making quite a few presents this year and am now getting worried that I'll look cheap - but we're skint, so it's this or nothing!
  • DIY cd's with your own designs as GIFTS only (not to sell) should be good!

I would probably like it, but only if you got my music tastes spot on. Almost impossible!

My family however, would hate it.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.
  • If you were a parent and a rellie rocks up with a cd wallet of blatantly home recorded cds of old 'blast from the past' records what would you think?

I would be more than happy for my children to receive that as a gift.

I'd try to add a nice personalised homemade cover to the disc case and tailor them as much as you can to the recipients' ages and anything else you know about their musical tastes.

Not sure who these children are and therefore how much you would normally spend on them, but perhaps you could consider wrapping them up with some chocolate coins (2 for £1) or a small selection if you find them on offer. Or a small packet of sweets (10p) if those ideas are budget busters! ;)

 OooH! Replies........um wow. Thanks. :cool2:

I've got long 33rpm story records read by the stars of the day Wendy Craig, Nerys Hughes, Lesley Judd etc - they'll obviously have their own cds, as well as LP collections of different pieces - obviously the entire works of Sousa is out of the question but the "Here We Go" march (Stars and Stripes Forever) is fun. Winifred Atwell playing the Black and White Rag etc

Like I said, I've got loads. I'm thinking of toddlers whose parents want to get away from Baby Jack (who's he?), Zingzillas (who are they?) and back to jump around music as well nursery rhymes and the traditional stories - Hansel & Gretel, Jack and the Beanstalk and so on.

    Destroy my records?! Never.

If I thought someone would get any use out of them, then I would happily give them away, but most people don't play vinyl records anymore. My local CashConverters won't even take record decks regardless of quality as they don't sell.

I've never had much confidence with anything I've made, I handwash all the stuff I make. Nice scarves there, flippin36, although I'd be worried mine would end up on www.Regretsy.com :o
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

  • :o Just an update : I bottled it and gave her a card with a £20 in it. Although I spoke on the 'phone to my cousin over Chrimbo and she said that the cd thing would be nice.

    Maybe next year. :o:o:o
