the most cost effective way to use oil central heating

  • We have oil heating but poor insulation and I am currently at home a lot. Last winter with the extreme temperatures we had the heating going all day, and sometimes on low overnight because our pipes freeze. We got one 600l delivery in December and a second in February with a total cost of £925.

Oil is expensive and as far as I am concerned the less the heating is on the better. I use the woodburning stove during the day and an electric heater as necessary. I also believe that you get used to the house being warm if the heating is on all the time and because we are on a fairly tight budget we try to use the heating sparingly.

A lot depends on your house, the efficiency of your boiler, your personal preferences, your budget etc and I suppose the only way to know for certain is to experiment and see how it goes.
