You're all so inspirational here! Can I join too? I'd like to clear at least £1000 of my debt by the end of the year, if not more.

I won't be making extra payments just yet unfortunately because I am fighting to stay out of my overdraft while having money to pay for my friend's hen night and, and other wedding/bridesmaid expenses, but if after all that I have a little left over I am going to throw it at one of my CCs!

I figured there's no point putting extra into my CC if I know I'll just end up back in my overdraft before my next payday

Welcome to the challenge snailmail! Good luck with the debtbusting :)

£115 OP to Barclaycard today. Look! I've gone under £3k owing. That is VERY exciting. AND... I've only got £100 left to pay on that Barclaycard. WooT!

    Well done :T

Thanks for the updates everyone :)

Can I just remind everyone please, that if they are updating their payments if they could post the total paid off in colour, bold or larger font so that I can keep up. Sometimes it's not always clear what is just a mention in conversation, and what is an amount for updating :)

Alternatively, if you keep a running total in your signature, I can lift the total paid from there.

Thanks very much from a little dense person :D

jwil you do a fantastic job, I'm amazed you can keep up at all with so many people updating! My running total will always be in my sig; any mentions are just for me to keep a track of what I'm doing.

  • Hi all,

Declaring my total so far today as any extra money between now and the end of the month is to cover all the bills coming out

Though i'm hoping to start making more regular overpayments throughout next month too :)

    Total for me is: £1717/17,000

Really hoping next month to clear target 1 and then move on to targets 2 and 3 - Two targets being tackled at once because one isn't being paid anything at the moment  But is my smallest balance so will give me a bit of a psychological boost to clear it. Will also help me as i'm not having to keep track of so many different things i owe money on :o

Well done to everyone for all the payments and overpayments too.

    MORTGAGE OVERPAYMENTS: £10575.20 Target £12,100

I reduce mine by every £500 i get to but i don't have the pin number for my credit card so it's not too bad.

I've actually managed to do one better than that - I hid the card out of the way so that I wasn't carrying it on me & couldn't use it. Trouble is, I considered trying to get a new balance transfer to a 0% interest card the other day & appear to have hidden it so well I can't find it at all! :rotfl:

To be fair though, I didn't try too hard. The interest is low because the amount outstanding was a transfer from my main card and I hope to have it all paid off within the next 3/4 months, leaving me free to focus on the other c/card.

Twiggy, I did that with one of my cards too. And I didn't find my card until six months later - it was being used as a bookmark in a cookbook that I'd put back on the shelf!
  • I would love to join in on this, will be great way to push myself to achieve it!!

I want to pay off £4000 this year. So far I have managed to pay £2000 back which i owed to my mum. The other £2000 will be off a personal loan. I will still owe a substantial amount, but every little helps.

    So £2000/4000 :j:j

Out of interest, are people including their mortgage debt in this as well??
