I've been burden with debt since i turned 18 and got my first credit card - am now on the brink of 28 and have had no life for the last 8 years. All I've been doing is making minimum payments and its got to a stage where all my cards are in arrangements or with debt collectors.
Oh and I can't get any credit ever again due to defaults!!

I've been working 7 days since 2010 and started pay off debt now that some are interest free:
    October 2011: total debt - £25430
    April 2012: total debt - £19950

I make payments of £768 a month and the 'rest' I live off :(

Any ideas how to get the debt down or pay off quicker?

    Thanks
    FK

Hey FK, welcome to the forum!

You'll find lots of advice, and it might be worth you posting your own thread on the DFW board so the friendly peeps there can help you out.

It's probably worth speaking to one of the free debt charities if you haven't already done so. Get a debt management plan sorted and hopefully your creditors will freeze interest and you can start clearing them. The free charities (never pay anyone to set this up) will give you a realistic budget to live on, and the rest will be apportioned to your creditors.

A good first step is to work out your income and outgoings - use this site to help you : http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html

If you post the results of that on the debt free wannabe board, the chaps there will help you identify the best way forward for you.

    You've knocked £5.5k off your debt since October, that's fantastic :T :T

It's not sustainable to work 7 days a week long term, but it is possible to clear your debt.

Good luck, and once things are in order and if you find you want to join the challenge, then you'd be very welcome :)

  • Jwil I was not expecting it to stop but it has happened every time before so I have learned not to rely on it. I was using it either as overpayments or for treats for the kids. I can still manage to survive but I just dont know why he thinks its okay to just stop paying. Hey ho
