This challenge is a continuation of the very successful 'Pay Off as much as you can' challenge 2011.

Link to 2011 thread: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2923958

In 2011 we managed to pay a total of: £568,054.50 :T :T :j :j

The whole point of this challenge is that there is no set amount you can aim to pay off - you set your own target - be it £5 or £500,000.

Everyone is welcome :) and every pound counts.

If you want to join in and set yourself a target let me know and I'll add you to the list.

If you want me to update your total, post it in either of the two formats:

£548 paid off so far
or
£548/£5000 paid.

I don't mind what colours by the way :rotfl:, but if you were able to make it bigger or in colour then that would be great. (Click on 'go advanced' for those who are not sure how to do it). If it's like that I can clearly see it is a total and will add it to the first page.

I will update the totals paid on the 1st of each month. I count all payments posted up to midnight on the last day of the month as being included in that month. Anything posted after counts for the following month.

Happy debtbusting everyone!

Our combined targets are:
£963,407.63 and €2200

Totals paid off 2012:

January - £49,957.12, €200

February - £35,072.96, €400

March - £51,339.97

April - £68,108.64

May - £26,420.50

June - £39,307.76

July - £22,723.46

August - £37,967.36

September - £16,036.15

October - £15,712.26

December - £25,250.73

Running total: £410,030.31, €600

There are no 'rules' as such to this challenge - if you want to count every payment made towards a debt that is fine, if you want to just count the amount that your debt reduces by that is fine as well.

Last year I counted just the amount the debt was reducing by so ignored payments that covered interest. This year I have decided to take a new approach.

I have set my target to pay off £15,000. I am going to count EVERY payment I make towards my debt so I can see just how much money I am wasting. :o. I am also going to have a secondary target for myself, where I am trying to reduce my actual debt by £10,000.

So what I am hoping for this challenge is that I pay £15,000 towards my debt, and the effect this will have is that I reduce my overall debt by £10,000.

  • Hey Jwil.

Count me in for this year.

My target this year is to reduce my debt by £500 per month. So my target is £6000 for 2012.

This is going to be a big challenge for me, but I'm going to give it a go!

Thanks for doing this again this year, Jwil.
