Freecycle is a better option than a bonfire. Someone might collect it to burn anyway, but they would probably be burning it for heating, not just to get rid of it. They would probably also store and dry it for a while first too. Burning it now when new and damp you'd just have loads of foul smoke.

You could also make a log pile in the garden, usually under a bush or trees with some shade. Lots of wildlife live in these, including toads and hedgehogs which are useful by eating slugs and snails for you.

There's also the possibility to turn it in to food with a mushroom log kit, which I've seen a few types of in garden centres and online. Basic concept is drill some holes in old logs, put in pegs containing spores then place the logs somewhere shady and damp so that mushrooms grow.

I'd also vote for freecycle - everyone wins: you get rid of the waste free of charge and someone gets free fuel.

You'll probably be left with quite a bit of twiggy waste though. If your garden has a lot of trees and shrubs and you need to cut them back quite often, it might be a good idea to get a shredder. This reduces the twigs etc to a useful mulch.
