Rates and water charges - just curious.....

I think I'll fall into the 'scumbag wastrel' category (or was it lowlife loser?) and they won't chase me for payment.Stercus accidit0

What percentage of people would not have to pay for them to take it seriously.
I live on my own and will end up with a bill of over £400 when the full charges come into play.
Surely they cannot just invent new taxes like this without consulting people.0 -
If the bill is what I expect I will pay. I will also send them a letter/email informing them that I will be watering my garden continuously day and night and will have the cleanest cars in the country. I also intend to increase the level of the water in the river at the bottom of the garden as it looks much better when the water flow is higher (might have to buy a pump to increase the water pressure though). I have one of those swinning pools that takes around 10000litres of water and rather than use costly chemicals to keep it clean I shall change the water twice a week.
I will get value for money.0 -
If you eventually get a water meter wont they just push the standing charges up .So either way we will have to pay .
what are the local politicians saying about these charges ,and are they advising us to pay0 -
Its a difficult issue.
Sinn Fein claim that we should pay our water bills or face poor credit ratings and court appearaces and or jail.
The DUP is for water bills to my knowledge.
SDLP and UUP have no real strategy except that they are against them.
The reality is these politicians will not lift a finger to help us that is why come the next election I won't be voting.
Eamonn McCann is a socialist who is with the 'We wont pay campaign', but this is a small campaign that I believe will be ultimately ineffective.0 -
The biggest issue folk should concern themselves with is getting an adverse credit record due to non payment, Is it really worth it? :doh:0

I wouldn't mind paying if it was metered and I'm only paying for what we use. Just my 2d0

I'm the same but I'm also with Raymond, if I'm paying for water based on the value of my home then I'm going to get my moneys worth until they let me have a meter. No more conserving water for me.
As far as the local politicians are concerned I believe they have been stalling over the last couple of years in the hope that everything will have been pushed through by those nasty people in Whitehall and then they won't have to take the flak from us.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. BTW if I have to pay I want a meter as well ,0 -
From what I have heard.... the water will not actually be the expensive part, as Ginger Nuts says, it is to be the standing charges. Therefore, having the meters installed MAY not make that much difference.
To be honest, I am bricking it! I have no idea where I am going to find the money to pay an extra 40-50 quid each month. Things are tight enough as it is. We are lucky, we bought our 1st terraced house for £11000, in 1993, have made 2 upwards moves since then and have a decent amount of equity. We are not however, big earners. We do not have any debts but I am very careful with our money. The whole system is seriously flawed and needs to be looked at!0
