Gift for a new baby

My cousin has just given birth to her first child. I want to get her a gift, but I have no idea what. I don't have any kids of my own.

Both my cousin and her husband are well-paid professionals. I'm sure they've already bought all of the basics. I'm looking for a gift that they won't have thought to buy.

Did you get a gift (for yourself or your baby) that you really appreciated or absolutely loved? Any ideas would be most welcome. I really have no clue.

My budget is around £50, but I could stretch to £100 if it's something great. Also, it has to be something I can buy online. They live 4,000 miles from me.

Thanks in advance.

  • What about a voucher for them to get baby's hands/feet cast?

We had both out children done at around 2 weeks old in Selfridges and they are just amazing. We chose to have both hands and feet cast which was £199 each but so worth it. The detail is amazing as they press the hand or foot into clay then fill it out if that makes send so its not a imprint but it actually pokes out and it is box framed and hand painted by an artist. They do vouchers from £59 for a single hand or foot.

I am going to get a nice bound book of fairy tales for my future niece/nephew, something they can keep, with lovely illustrations. That could be an idea for you?

I've bought the more basic versions of these (i.e. either the plasticine impression version or the paint impression) from Mothercare for friends.

They all thought it was a great 'alternative' present but only 1 set of friends actually got round to using it.

Not very interesting to them right now but, is it too late to get a newspaper and no.1 album from the day they were born?

Ours were done for us, all we had to do was hold the little one whilst they took the impression and go back 2 weeks to collect (and pay.) I don't think i would have done it myself if someone had bought one for us either to be honest.

I did impressions of my son's hand and foot when he was 6 weeks old and framed them myself. Cost less than £30.

Anyway, if the OP is in the UK, and her cousin is 4,000 miles away, they might not have a Selfridges ;)

What about a silver piggy bank, would be a nice keepsake to pass onto their own children too.
  • Send them an all season Morrck hoodie, something they will use every day. It was one of the best gifts I received:

  • Thanks for the suggestions. I was thinking of something a bit more practical than a foot cast or a cake made of diapers (wasn't that on an episode of Sex and the City?). Something that would make my cousin's life easier over the next few months.

The hoodie looks great. I would've never thought of that, but it makes a lot of sense.

Premium Bonds? I still have the first premium bond bought for me. It could be a gift that keeps on giving?
Sadly, you don't have any badges yet but keep trying! See what you could get........... oh boo hoo I am crying into my wine. :D
