So, just give your parents the £300 and then get them to pay the rent with it. Job Done
    (Call it board)

£300 is a reasonable price for bed and board on your wages.

What income do your parents have coming in.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I dont know if they get paid child tax and stuff. If im totally honest iv never asked. I will defo ask when i see them at the weekend though.

I am amazed at how often the problem is people not claiming what they are entitled to and getting in a mess. There is a householder due to be re-possessed for fairly small arrears who failed to claim any sickness benefits for 6 months. His pride could cost the family a lot.

So, the first question is do they get Child Benefit?

    Next

    1. Have they added him to their housing claim on two grounds - cost and the room allowance they can get?
    2. Are they claiming CTC?
    3. What are this lad's parents paying towards his keep? Do you parents realise they can claim CSA? And that is not counted as income.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • I don't think you are getting the full story from your parents. As well as the possibility that they may have given the council incorrect information, it is possible that they are not entitled to full housing benefit anyway, but they are passing on the shortfall to you rather than covering it themselves.

I would be very surprised if a couple in their situation are short of money - long term disability benefits are not ungenerous, especially when there is a dependant child in the household.

When you ask them, you should be looking for:

    Incapacity/ ESA
    Income Support
Housing Benefit (how much is their rent and how much do they receive)
    Council Tax Benefit
    DLA
    Child Tax Credits
    Child Benefit
    Help with uniforms/ school meals

This is the key question - £300 would imply he is paying more than the NDD.

The suggestion of giving the £300 to the parents is excellent. After all, liability for the payment remains with them. ;)

I said this to them, although they would still have to pay it to the council.

I dont want to know their specifics but i think dad gets job seekers, and mum gets some sick. But i think dads has been cut with him being on the dole for nearly a year. Iv always had a job so i couldnt even tell you how much the normal rate for dole is. Is it like £90 every fortnight or something?

I really hope they arnt doing this. Although i have too much pride if im honest to ask them the question. Its a tough situation to be in to ask my parents who have spend many thousands on my up bringing if they are 'having me over' kind of thing.

Her diagnosis from siatica has only happened in the recent 2 years. I dont think she gets that much. Again i really need to have a sit down i think to ask the question.

I will do this, then its up to them if they pay it or not. I never thought of it like this. Many Many thanks.

You usually get more for being on long term sick, not less.

I can understand why you are feeling frustrated, but I think your anger should be redirected towards your parents. They are receiving benefits that should allow them to contribute towards their living costs as well as support for your nephew, so whereas it is fair that you should contribute towards your living expenses/rent, they certainly should rely on you to pay for things for your nephew, their entertainment, or past debts.

How hard is your dad trying to get a job? A high blood pressure should stop him from getting any job, it just means that he has to watch what he eats, exercise, and take medication. He should be supporting his family, not rely on his son to do so. 12 months is a long time without any kind of employment for someone who used to work.

I will ask this aswell matey, many thanks. All this stuff goes over my head. My nephews mother dosnt pay anything towards him. Its a tough situation. Defo will get back to you on this.

All thanks for the comments really does give me something to work off. Again i would like to make everyone aware im not trying to get out of this at all. I am just trying to get answers to why iv really never heard of the non-dependent deductions etc and why they calc it on my gross wage. When i dont recieve my full wage.

Iv had some very blunt and harsh replies, i didnt realise this was such a touchy subject, although id like to thank you for at least reading my post.

Ill let you guys know how it goes.

If im honest i was more fustrated with the government not giving me full understanding of what i should be paying. I couldnt even speak to them because my name isnt on the rent book lol.
