I would like to use callcredit to check my credit references but they need visa or mastercard details, not much use if all your cards are on hold except for switch eh!

I signed up for the 30 day free trial with MyCallCredit and they have sent me a password. However, when I try to access the 'free' report there is a warning that says:
By accessing the Product, due to the fact that the information is available to you, you will no longer have the right to refund or to cancel the contract under Regulation 10 of the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulation 2000

I'm guessing that's a standard warning for customers who might change their minds after buying a report, but it sounds like they won't let me cancel my membership at the end of my free trial.

Can someone please reassure me that they have been through this, got the report and successfully ended their trial without being charged?

    Thanks. MLS

    Hi all,
My OH and I would like to open a joint savings account, primarily as a record for the Home Office for proof of living together (OH is American).
If we open a joint HSBC savings account, will our files be linked? HSBC staff seem to think so (they also think that we will be credit checked too). Is this correct?
I'm concerned if we the savings account does link our files that my credit history will be badly affected.
    Thanks!
If you are opening a savings account, you will NOT be credit-checked - it will merely be a money-laundering verification check. This does not leave a search on your file.
Also, as the product is not a credit product, it will not be supplied to credit bureau(x). Your financial link will not be known to the bureau(x). It poss. you will be financially linked in the eyes of HSBC, but not to anyone else. Financial linking is thru credit products only.
    Hope this helps!redface.gif

I applied for both my credit reports the other day (paper based versions) before I apply for my student account in August as Halifax use both credit scorers and I want to make sure I get the best overdraft possible.

So got my Equifax one and was surprised to see every account I have on there, I always thought most people's were a pretty even split between the two.

Anyway, today my neighbour catches us on the way out and hands me a letter addressed to me but at her address (no 9 instead of 8) and lo and behold it's my credit report from Experian!:eek:

They have me not on the electoral roll and basically not existing because the address is wrong! I'm so so  as this is probably why I couldn't get an Egg card or a Nationwide account which I really need. Grrrrrrrrrr.

So fellow MSE-er's - CHECK YOUR REPORTS!!
No longer using this account for new posts from 2013

Have you contacted them to make them correct the error? and the company that listed you at this incorrect address? This should be resolved very quickly - it was for me (done in a few days).
    Friendly greeting!

    Hi russbeck,

I think that status 8 means that you are still owing and that you defaulted more than 3 times? Apologies if I'm wrong, it's been a while since I checked my file (November '06) but I had something similar with Vodafone. They had a status 8 on my file dating back to Jan 2002 when in fact I had paid (the account was originally with Singlepoint and had not been settled due to an internal error when Vodafone bought them out). After many phone calls and eventually speaking to a very helpful lady in a non-customer facing department, she was able to remove it (and another which was on there too) - took 48 hours. So it can be done...

Status 8 at Experian means you have defaulted. Even if you have since settle dthe loan it will stay on yr file until six years from the date of default.
  • I'm an EU national and have been living in the UK for the past 4 years, and have had an account here since 2001. I have a steady and decent paying job in the charity sector and have a current account with Natwest and 2 credit cards, one Visa with Natwest and one MasterCard with Capital One. They have given me really meagre balances: CapitalOne £600, and Natwest £450. I only use my credit cards to buy airline tickets and pay them back right away. I have a feeling that this is why they refuse to increase my balance, although they won't admit that this is the case. CapitalOne has kept me on this balance for over 2 years and whenever I phone and ask they always say it will be reviewed. I'm really fed up as I need to buy a ticket right now that costs £750 and I really don't want to use my overdraft. What can I do besides not paying my balance every month so they can make some money off me and increase my limit? And why am I being penalised for being a good customer?!?!

Them making money off you won't necessarily mean they increase your limit. Credit limit restriction is usually because your quoted income is insufficient according to their "multiples" strategy (depends how new your cards are). If your income has gone up since you applied, it may be worth updating their records. Have you ever gone into arrears on any products? How often? This will discourage them increasing your limit.
Otherwise, it may be due to infrequent usage that they are unwilling to raise your limit. You could try using the card each month (if you don't already)
and paying it off - the amount doesn't have to be large. However, this won't help you for this ticket you're trying to buy now! Limit reviews tend to happen, say, 6-monthly at most. From what I understand anyway. Good luck!
    Friendly greeting!

After many yrs of applying for stuff like store cards, credit cards etc cos i wanted to get a credit history started, i'm finally getting one with Capital One. I have no credit history (and i'm 40yrs old):o , and i have applied to get my credit files for the first time because i was always getting declined, my own bank won't even give me a card and i've been with them for 15yrs.

I read through what Martin said to do and i've done it all, hopfully i won't abuse the credit card :A after waiting all this time for one, and i can't wait to see my credit files.

How long do accounts stay on your credit report for because I have old settled credit cards which are showing up on my report?

Obviously thoughout life you will change credit cards quite often to ensure you get a 0% deal. You will then end up with loads of accounts on your report.
