Sounds like extortion to me. Give in to us or we will hurt you !
You sure they did say this to your son ?
Ask for a transcript of the conversation and report them.
    It almost sounds criminal.
If I said to you "Do the following or your family will suffer" ..I would expect a visit from the police !
  • Sorry for being vague, but my knowledge on the credit ratings is slim.
I have recently exchanged contracts on a property 3 yrs old, and im a first time buyer.and my question is in two parts
1)what will happen to my credit "score" as a homeowner albeit a new one?
2)when is a good time to apply for for credit after this move?
Ant other advice anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.
  • 1. Credit rating drops
    2. When on the voters roll and for more than 3 months
  • when and how will it get better
  • My son tried to open a student account today with The Halifax, but he was refused because he had no credit rating. We have since been told this is because he has never had a bank account, so no rating is available. Has anybody else been in this situation, i.e not being able to open an account because you have never had one?

    Hi all,

    Can anyone help with this?

I always get rejected for credit and was recently rejected for an Alliance and Leicester Premier Account.

I've had copies of my credit report.

Now I have moved around quite a bit (8 addresses in the last 6 years as a renter) and not always been on the electoral roll. I have however been on the Electoral Roll for the last 1.5 years.

I've been with my bank for 13 years only have one credit card which I pay off in full at the end of each month.

Some of the addresses have flagged up on CIFAS section after I have lived there. Could this be an issue?

Also is there anyone I can talk to about my credit report to find out if there are any other issues with it? Citizens Advice Bureau?

    Cheers

    Oli

british gas did exactly the same to me i left a property gave them a final meter reading. Couple of months later checked my credit history and was defaulted for a bill of £69 which was clearly not mine as it was dated after i had moved out. They argued saying they had sent reminders to my new addresse (they hadnt) 20 advisors later n alot of crying it was removed and a letter of appology was sent. Dont let them get away with it

    Hi

I'm in exactly the same boat, but only just found out about my default. Would you be able to provide any help in terms of what I should say in my letters to them from the off? Who exactly did you write to?

Could you post any of your letters here on the thread?

    Thanks:beer:
  • Hello all, wonder if you can help me?

In reference to what Martin wrote in his (very helpful!) article on Credit Ratings:

"Building a good credit history/repairing past problems. Credit scoring tries to predict your behaviour. As if you've no credit history it's more difficult for lenders to do this, you're more likely to be rejected.

If you can't get credit, sadly the solution is apply for hideous 30%-ish rate credit cards offered by the likes of Monument, the Associates, Barclaycard and Capital One – who offer special ‘high-risk' cards alongside their normal ones.

Use these for 6 months to a year, spending a little every month but strictly repay in full, so there's no interest cost. After that you should've built a credit history allowing you to move into the mainstream. This tactic is also useful for those who've defaulted in the past."

I *think* this is what's happening to me. I've not had a credit card for almost 7 years, having paid them off and cut them up, but have had an overdraft since 1996 (but with the same bank all that time), student loans that are currently deferred, one store card that's paid off and a catalogue account that I occasionally default on; I lived at the same address for over 3 years, and only then did I move, back in April.

I checked out my credit rating, and everything was great, apart from they literally didn't have a 'score' for me, as it basically said I had no credit, so none of the above seemed to be taken into account.

Do you think it's worth while trying for a few more 'mainstream' cards, or should I give up and get the *shudder* high-interest ones? I want it for taking travelling overseas as a back up (although I plan to use Nationwide Debit Card for cash withdrawals, as it concurs no charge), so it will only be used in real emergencies.

    Thank you!
    xx
  • Hi, Im looking for advise on defaults on my credit file. I currently have 5 defaults on credit file which the latest defaulted date being 26/6/02 which is just over 5yrs to this day, I believe that defaults come off your credit file after 6yrs which is about 11months time. the highest default i have is with the bank to the amount of £6320, The res are for the amounts of £1762, £270, £173, £0 which is settled but still defaulted. I have completely changed in the way i handle my money and not beable to obtain credit is holding me back from getting a joint morgage with my wife. What do i do do i write to these companys asking them to remove my defaults or do i just wait until the 6yrs are up and they will be removed automatically im wanting to get a morgage next august thats why im trying to act on it now to have a good credit score. Your advise on this whould be greatful thanks.
