So he would see a woman in lacy underwear on a beach, with suspenders provacativley sucking a lollipop, where in the hell do you live!
Come on, it's unjustifiable. I have a 7 and 8 yr old, and there's no way I would allow this or any other 18 rated game for that matter! It's not right, and thank goodness the school have picked up on it, hopefully they will monitor him, as you don't seem to be able to keep an open mind on what is or isn't suitable for a small child.
I'm sorry, I just can't agree on 18 rated games being played by children way, way younger. The excuse ''oh well they're all right, they're not xyz'' doesn't cut it! It's not right, the age censor is there for a reason, be it sexual content or violence. It's harmful, end of. If his school, headteacher can see this, and hundreds of faceless people on the internet can too, why can't you?0 -
I would get him the Sims (maybe not the Hot Date one though!) and let him play that. I used to love playing that. And at least as its not on the internet you dont need to worry about other people as its only your child on there.
I think that if you have to sit and watch your child on a game then its not clearly not suitable.
If you are happy that theres nothing wrong with it, then why sit with them the whole time?0 -

A bit like you always see police officers knocking around looking like this?
Or the nurses that give your child his inoculations dressing up like this?
I'll repeat. It's 18+ and you are breaking their Terms having your child on there. You are breaking a law having your child on there. If the lesson you want to teach your child is to "do what you want as long as you don't get caught" I'd say carry on and good luck “Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. I'm not that worried about sexy stuff or inappropriate content.
I'm more worried about the possibility of taking a virtual life more seriously than a real one. It happens - vulnerable people with poor social skills really can kill themselves through immersion in Second Life. Here's a horrific example: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/mar/05/korean-girl-starved-online-gameSouth Korean police have arrested a couple for starving their three-month-old daughter to death while they devoted hours to playing a computer game that involved raising a virtual character of a young girl.
The 41-year-old man and 25-year-old woman, who met through a chat website, reportedly left their infant unattended while they went to internet cafes. They only occasionally dropped by to feed her powdered milk.
According to the Yonhap news agency, South Korean police said the couple had become obsessed with raising a virtual girl called Anima in the popular role-playing game Prius Online. The game, similar to Second Life, allows players to create another existence for themselves in a virtual world, including getting a job, interacting with other users and earning an extra avatar to nurture once they reach a certain level.
"The couple seemed to have lost their will to live a normal life because they didn't have jobs and gave birth to a premature baby," Chung Jin-Won, a police officer, told Yonhap. "They indulged themselves in the online game of raising a virtual character so as to escape from reality, which led to the death of their real baby."
Last September after a 12-hour gaming-session the couple came home in the morning to find their daughter dead. The baby's malnourished body aroused police suspicions of neglect that were was confirmed after an autopsy.
THAT's why young and impressionable people should not start playing it.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -

Don't know what beaches you go to but i've never seen a woman in stockings and suspenders pouting whilst sucking a lollipop.
Essentially harmless  ?
You really don't get it do you ? And you sit with him too !!!! You want to help your son ? Stop sitting with him whilst he plays this game, you're the one who is at fault here, your son playing the game isn't the problem, doesn't matter how you try to justify it.0 -
Thank-you badger - lady. I would like to find a way for him to channel his interest (&if that can be done away from second life then great) without it reaching obsession level. He gets hooked on anything that he enjoys - even food.
That's the reason for posting, I didn't expect such a hostile response !Bow Ties ARE cool "Just because you are offended, doesnt mean you are right" Ricky Gervais0 -

I sincerely hope you are right. My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

What do you mean, 'if'?
Of course it can, you're his Mum, you can stop him playing it any time you want to!
The biggest mistake you made was allowing him to go on it in the first place, so ban it at home and let him find another interest which is safe and not illegal.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
This is with moderate safe search on and this would be allowed in general area. Stop kidding yourself OP. And there was more explicit. But not apropriate for here or an 8 year old.The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Not having a go, but there should be any IF about it should there. Hasn't anything written here made you think that that you MUST get him away from Second Life?
Please don't let your own stubbornness put him at risk.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
