Personal lease - Automatic 5 door car

  • Hi,

first post so please bear with me.

I am in the same dilema but I need a new car ASAP.

I am looking to spend around btw 7-10k on a golf diesel, bmw, audi or something similar.

I have considered leasing but as someone mentioned it seems to be expensive and the shortest contract I can find is 24 months.

Can someone please explain the DIS/advantages to both seperate options.

    Many thanks

    Regards
    BOB

If you are going to leaseyou must choose the deal and not the car, by that I mean choose a car that is not popular will be replaced by a new model etc. If you choose a popular car their is no incentive for the manufacturers to offer deals.

Manufacturers don't like selling cars at huge discounts but if they let them through via cheap leases it masks the reuction somewhat.

Get a spread sheet up and running and ddo the calculations for Loan, PCP, leasing etc.

36 month deals can be a probem especially if they are late in collecting the car (it will need an MOT), so be on the ball with this one.

    Advantages:-

    Generally hassle free motoring
    Known costs
    New Car

    Disadvantages:-

    Check the paper work thoroughly
Get everything in writing (I was stung once for VED when it was not included after I had been told (verbally) that it was, broker thenn went bust.
Be anal about how you keep the car, dings and scratches will cost you
Check that the mileage allowance is suitable and what the cost is per mile for going over.

There will still be deals out there but you will have to be flexible on what you drive.

Agree about point in bold, every scratch could result in them respaying the panel at about £2-300 a go. Basically cars need to be returned in showroom condition.

    Hi

I'm planning on changing my car next year.

    I'm interested in a car:
    - that can be leased over 36 months on a personal lease option (I understand a deposit of 1-2k or more will be needed)
    - I do less than 5000 miles a year
    - Need a 5 door car. Not an estate
    - Needs to be automatic

I have tried various websites, but there are so many options out there!

I'm just planning my budget for next year so I'm not in the market to buy just yet. However, I'd like a ballpark figure of what it would cost me on a monthly basis.

If anyone has any suggestions as to which car(s) may be suitable, I'd be very grateful.

    Thank you!

I think it is important to establish what you consider personal leasing to be. Are you talking contract hire, finance lease, lease purchase or personal contract purchase? All of which have many differences.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

Thanks. I'm off to Google then to see what the differences are.
