Really stupid!

Options
I have done a really stupid thing - I have saved over a copy of an excel document by accident - is it possible to get just this one document back to how it was last Wednesday without changing everything else I have updated as well?

  • anyone???????
  • Not that I am aware of, you could see if Office Recovery has a copy of them, but that is unlikely unless the program crashed.

The only way to revert back is through a system restore, however, these only revert settings and installations back to previous settings and do not alter documents in any way.

Looks like you might have to start again I am afraid.

My Advice for the future, make regular backups in the cloud or on an external Hard Drive.

This may be version dependent, right click the document, click properties, click previous versions

I over-rode it with another document, I didnt update a changed document..
  • Find it in windows explorer , right click and select properties. Then see if there is anything on Previous versions tab , sorry using Linux at the mo so I can't explain further , this seems to what santer is alluding to, and if not .......back up and also back off

  • Oh and if that doesn't work you could try recuva or some other file recovery software , but don't write too much on your PC if you want a fair chance of recovery.

There are a number of free data recovery programmes, though each time you install anything, it could over write the data you need to recover, so try them one at a time, and if a few do not do it, it is likely they will all return the same, no result

Testdisk, you can get instructions from the same link

Recuva, try the portable version from a USB stick if possible

Do you mean that will over-write anything I have done since?
