It does sound like a serious overheating problem.
I'd take it back to your nearest Best Buy store to get it sorted if you aren't confident in taking laptops apart (I wouldn't be).
    Avoid PCWorld like the plague!!!

thank you. I am concerned that that would invalidate the waranty if I was to have a go myself.

In that case contact Dell and get them to sort it out ... shouldn't be that fluffed up if its only a few months old.

    system restore or factory restore?

A Dell laptop should have a factory restore partition, which is the easiest way of reinstalling windows

I just posted this link earlier, on "Return faulty laptop to Best Buy or Dell?"

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-15616445

Best Buy are definitely closing: the USA HQ is closing all UK stores. Contact your Laptop manufacturer for advice.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.
  • Another bit of advice. Have you tried booting it in safe mode?

This only boots up the needed drivers and you should be able to do a system restore from this (tap F11 at startup - Varys with different computers).

Also, have you tried windows startup repair? Tap F8 at startup, go to 'Advanced Boot Options' and select 'Repair your Computer'

    Hope that helps
(F keys and menu names vary from computer to computer so you might have to play around with it)

This did the trick !! Thank you! Thank you!

It is now running perfectly well. I managed to do all the updates last night and it's still running perfectly.

I have run chkdsk and wondered if there was anything else I needed to do before my sigh of relief.

Thank you so much for the help and advice on this thread. It has saved me a lot of money and time
