Hi DS2 has a problem with his Dell Laptop. It wasn't working properly so decided to do a system restore. The laptop switched itself off during the restore and now there are a lot of errors and missing files. I have a backup disc but it won't boot. I am trying to get to the boot options but haven't managed to do that. Is there anyone that could help please?

Make and model? Try F1 or F2 for the BIOS.
For adavanced boot options, F8.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Thanks its a Dell Inspiron 15r
There are 2 options on the 'F' keys and there seems to be an Fn key on the bottom left of the keyboard. I don't know if the 2 keys need to be held down at the sam time or not

Just tap the relevant key at boot up. About once a second. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I had a desktop with similar symptoms. I eventually found there was a problem with the CPU fan which caused it to overheat and shut down after about 15 minutes and then in progressively shorter spaces of time.
Does the laptop shut itself down if you just switch it on without trying to do anything (i.e. just let it power up and then ignore it)?:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.0 -

Yes ... exactly that!
It was bought in August this year. DS2 downloads all sorts of games and videos so we thought it was a virus. Maybe not then.
Bought from Bestbuys. I think they are closing down

See this type of issues on laods of laptops - nearly always overhetaing.
Turn laptop over, look for a removable panel near where the fan outlet is ... carefully remove screws (noting where they come from) and remove the panel. Unscrew the fan carefully from its mount and you will find a load of fluff/felt blocking the outlet on the inside .... remove and problem solved. Note - blowing/sucking air into the grill from outside will not shift this type of blockage.0 -

thank you. I am concerned that that would invalidate the waranty if I was to have a go myself.
