W have had a Panasonic 42" HD freeview plasma for about 18 months and have found it very good. Also good for gaming with a separate "game" pre set.

It was a toss up between a 40"LCD Sony Bravia and I am glad I went bigger and plasma. The Sony looked very nice and I know someone with a 37" version which is good TV too.

I am looking for a secondary cheap TV at present and looking at the Hannspree 28" LED mentioned by a PP. Not sure about the 16:10 aspect though.

I like Sony ones.and the Xmas is coming, you can look for some promotion online than have a compare, you can choose a most worthy one.
Or you can have a check on Amazon or Newegg, there maybe some promotion, too.
  • If it is a basic use, such as TV just using Freeview, how about this one, has Freeview HD

    don't forget quidco or topcashback.
  • For that sort of money - I'd definitely choose an LED TV over anything else - most economical, least bulky, better display.

Try Samsung/LG - plenty to look at for £400-600.

It's worth choosing something with higher spec as possible in case you change your mind and want to try new things other than Freeview in the future.

Poor oldbean has fallen for LED marketing guff. LED Backlit LCD technology GENERALLY uses less space, and less energy than older CCFL LCD, but not in all cases, and the picture MAY be better, but NOT in all cases either. I'd still take a plasma though.

My 42" Panasonic plasma (TX-P42V20B) has the best picture I've ever seen on a flatscreen TV. Personally I much prefer the colours on plasma screens to the colours on LCD screens. Games look great on it too.
You'll need to invest in curtains with a plasma screen though, they really are not great in a bright room!

I bought the TV below,a 43in Samsung Plasma TV a couple months ago & I can't fault it! It has built in Freeview,I can connect my laptop to it (or any computer for that matter) & use it as a monitor,I can connect my laptop's External HD & watch my movies, look at photo's or listen to my music.
By using a Optical out,I now have my Sky running thru the TV to my surround sound & even the External HD now comes out in surround sound.
The picture is brilliant & even SD pictures look nearly HD quality.
Plus at the moment it's (sods law!) £100 cheaper than what I paid for it at £329!
