Online Banking and their free security softwares

My bank is barclays offering free Kaspersky and my friend's bank is HSBC offering McAfee

My question is:

1) Do I have to use their chosen software?
2) Are they any good compared to Avast and Windows firewall?
3) If anything happens would the bank not take responsibility if I didnt use their free software?
4) Can I run more than 1 antivirus and firewall?

Many thanks

    1) No
    2) Yes (KIS) Verydebatable (McRap)
    3) No , as long as you don't tell me what your Pin number is and write it down and you take all sensible precautions
    4) Not advisable

No bank obliges you to use their security software. Kaspersky is one of the best (especially when free), McAffeee is dire. Get KIS and give your friend one of the 2 remaining licence keys.
No you should not run more than one AV program, they will conflict.

Will Kaspersky slow down my computer?

    My specs are processor N270, XP, 512MB DDR2, 80GB, I have a netbook.

So is Kaspersky better than Norton
Will Avast and Microsoft Firewall be adequate if Kaspersky is not right for my netbook?

Sorry for so many questions just need to update my security and my friend's who has a new laptop.

it might have an effect then, avast is lighter on ram and there is not much difference in detection rates between kaspersky and avast

I got a netbook too W7 1Gb N270 and Norton(360) was fine on there, so Is Avast (running at the mo a bit slow at start up until lappy is usable but it ain't the fastest processor), but I have since upped the ram to 2Gb (what a waste tho only 1 slot, so had to lose the 1Gb that was in it)

  • Mine uses Trusteer Rapport
AV's are a bit of a waste of time IMO, they miss far too much Malware. Just look at how many people were caught by Malware Ads on many websites such as eBay etc.

Sandboxing your webbrowser and using something like Rapport should keep you safe.

Get Sandboxie. If you only need one sandbox it can be used freely with some restrictions.

Kaspersky isn't that good an AV. I stopped using it a very long time ago. Avira is better. Qihoo is the best for new Malware detection but even then only 67.6% were caught, followed by G DATA and then Avira. That is why a Sandbox provides the best protection and avoids having windows infected by Malware. If an attack happens, simply delete the sandbox and nothing affects windows OS files.
