Hawaii and Chicago - please help us plan a trip

Well thats what happens. You wake up really early, and fall asleep early! Which fits in with the timing of activities there. You might wake up in the night a few times on the 1st couple of days but its hardly a major issue.
Its much worse on the way back.
It can be , the trick is to go into Uk time mode as soon as you can ...an upgraded flight can make a difference too;):DVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -

Definitely. I always try but normally fail. One time we made the mistake of putting up the sofa bed in our living room when we came back from Maui because our sleeping patterns were so messed up.
It didnt really help :rotfl:
When Ive come back from Hawaii I always make sure I leave about 3 days before going back to work. And then Im normally a zombie for a couple of days.
Going out there is fine though, youre on 'Hawaii time' anyway!
My parents used their miles to upgrade the last time we went - not fun watching them go into the business class cabin whilst we were sat at the back!0 -

We normally land and go straight into work , not sure how we will cope this time , but hoping the upperclass bed is going to help
Tbh its all just a state of mind i think , just having to get on with it really makes a differenceVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -

Omg straight to work you are much braver than me!
Landing in the morning coming back from the US is always so hard because you have to try to stay up all day. I cant normally make it past about 3 or 4pm.
I also find I wake up in the night at about 2am ready for breakfast :rotfl:0 -
Hawaii is an incredibly long way so you might want to consider the impact jet lag will have on a short holiday.
We have been away to various places of varying timezones. NYC/Memphis/Florida/Las Vegas and think we will be fine with the jet lag. Hawaii is about 10 hours from what I could tell last night so going to Chicago first will ease us in as we will have a few days there to adjust.--

You will be ok with the jet lag because you will just wake up really early when you get to Hawaii, and most of the stuff like boat trips start pretty early in the mornings so youll just be up and ready for that! My parents were in the supermarket at 6am when we were there this year and back and ready for the beach at 8am which is handy for getting a good parking space
Where are you thinking of going in Hawaii? Please dont go to Waikiki for 7 nights! Try Maui or Kauai. Maui is my favourite.
If you are set on going to chicago, then that will help to break up the journey. I would look at flights with United, American, and check prices on kayak, expedia etc.
You can book flights with Hawaiian Airlines through the American Airlines website as like pelirocco says Hawaiian wont accept UK credit cards on their website.
book it on your credit card, and take out travel insurance and you should be fine.
You could also look on www.vrbo.com for condos as they are cheaper and bigger than hotels in Hawaii
Just to add - unless you are set on chicago, you could visit Dallas instead as you can fly there direct to Maui with American. Or of course theres always LA, San Fran..
We have yet to decide exactly where in Hawaii we are going. At the moment we are in the initial planning phase.
I agree with you re booking on credit card, me and my partner thought that would be best as we are looking to book things separately.
I'm not too fussed what city we go to but my partner said she wants to do Chicago so that's why we are going there.--

You forget they will be stopping over in Chicago , so they will have time to get used to the time difference there , before going on to Hawaii
So 6 hours time difference , then another 4 hrs in Hawaii .
That's what we are hoping for that the stop in the middle will help. We have done a few USA trips so are used to the change of time-zone but 10 hours to Hawaii will be the biggest we have done.--

Ive done Las Vegas , thats 8 hrs , and we only went for 4 nights , i cant remember it being a problem
I will let you know in January if this was different lolVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
I did this trip about 4 years or so ago and the stopover at Chicago helped the jetlag enormously. Just remember however you are looking at a 9 hour flight from Chicago to Honolulu and as it's classified a domestic flight you can't guarantee there will be any food onboard for the cabin crew to sell to you!
I would recommend stopping off somewhere on the way back to help with the jetlag on the return trip.
We spent one night at LA before heading back to London and it really did help, and we spent 6 nights in Hawaii if I recall correctly.0
