ASDA GU10 light bulbs

ASDA usually seem to have offers on their GU10 3 pack light bulbs (2 for £5) which is cheaper than other brands.
Although we follow the correct precautions when installing the bulbs (i.e. not touching the glass with fingers), I have noticed that they seem to blow very quickly. In one case, the bulb blew a few days after installing it!
I'm wondering whether the reason these bulbs are cheap is because of their inferior manufacturing process and construction?
Has anyone else noticed that the ASDA GU10 bulbs don't tend to last very long either?

I don't know about ASDA specifically, but having used GU10's from the sheds and other supermarkets, I have found that Philips, Osram, Sylvania and the likes offer brighter lamps that last significantly longer.

i was thinking about changing the light in my lounge as I thought the problem was with that... So it's not just you! Sometimes they'd last a matter of days but what I have noticed; is that if you have a light fitting that takes four, if you just have one in it'll run for ages on its own.
I picked some Tesco ones up a couple of months ago and put 3 in with the existing Asda one. The Asda one has blown and the Tesco ones are still running.0 -
Only buy good branded GU10's as listed previously. All supermarket or budget DIY store bulbs will not last . Total waste of moneyYou scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0

Agree with that. Bought some once from Asda..... Never Again! Blew within weeks.0 -
So which of these would anyone reccommend. I'm off to buy some GU 10s tomorrow but I seem to be out buying them all the time. They never seem to last long and it's a drain on my pocket replacing them. It would be great if I knew of a brand that at least lasted a couple of months.

Me too.
I had two blow. Put two Adsa ones in and 3 weeks later 2 were blown again. I took them out and they were the two Asda ones I had very recently fitted.

Philips and Osram have a new range of halogen GU10's which have a quoted lifetime of 2 years. They are also more economical as they're a lower wattage but claim to produce the same brightness as a standard 50W GU10:
Philips EcoHalo Twist GU10
Osram HALOPAR 16 ECO
I haven't tried either yet so can't comment. If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0 -
