I believe that if you are granted refugee status in a country you are unable to gain a work permit or residency in another so if the OP gained her residency here then she may have been able to visit the US and be supported there by others but would have been unable to gain a work permit or perminant leave to remain I am shocked at the comments made to someone who has had to leave their native land due to war and conflict how sad you people must be I am though surprised at the OPs education leval as it is known fact that Somalies are the least educated of all the immigrants to this country but of course ther has to be exceptions There are many Somalie self help groups through out the UK that should offer help and guidance to the OP and a visit to he local council office will help I think some of the posters should consider what life would be like away from the familiarity of their own country and unable to returnmilliemonster wrote: »So why if you went to America are you still calling yourself a refugee? America is a safe country, you should have stayed there until you had built up enough funds to support yourself and your child back here in blighty if this is where you want to live BEFORE coming back. Or are you trying to tell us that you were fleeing persecution in the states now too?0 -
The OP could have given the above post better grammar, better English and better punctuation ...... do you STILL beleive it?!
Why, Oh why, would a highly educated person such as that in the OP be in need of ANY advice from people on here? They WOULDN'T ......

Sorry, I'm not buying the OP's post at all!
Ok, granted refugee status, presumably given a temporary travel document if not permanent leave to remain. There's no way OP would be able to get a visa to stay in USA for a YEAR with that type of travel document. Knowing their immigration and having a first experience with that type of travel document I know what I'm talking about. This post is a wind up.
And with the OP being Somalian, they tend to stick with their own and know the system well, so I doubt the OP if real, would not know what to do already and not come here on public forum to ask people for advice.
The story doesn't add up.0 -

Have to agree. If the OP is now a true refugee, she'd be travelling on a 1951 document. Even if she wanted to travel to Europe she would need to get a Schenghen Visa. The chances of her getting even a 6 month Visa to the States would be very slim - let alone a year.0 -
Hm. The only thing that makes me think it might be a wind-up is the notion that an unmarried Somali woman would have a baby out of wedlock and her family would still welcome her in."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

It the OP has posted as a wind up, the arguing will be what they want so I suggest ignoring it is the best bet.
If it's genuine I think sufficient advice (e.g. contacting Shelter) has been given so I suggest we all leave it there.Officially in a clique of idiots0 -
Fantastic. Why is the OP here if they don't have a home?
They have signed up for income support, this isn't free money, someone has to pay for it. They've paid nothing into the system and now they're going to take up a place (home) from someone else in Britain.
There will come a day when the welfare system is broke because people are taking advantage of it that have paid nothing into it. That will mean that the truly needy who have contributed to the system will be left without.0 -
