HELP!! HELP!! Homeless and need a council house in London urgently

In my personal experience I needed to be given 30 days notice in writing to leave the place I was staying at, in your case your friends sofa.
I was then put in a B&B and expected to wait in there until I got temporary accommodation, which turns out was 11 months later.
I never actually waited though, they put the heating on 300degrees every night to flush me out so they could claim the housing benefit without having to worry about me using the room. Luckily in the 30 days + a few in a B&B I'd managed to save for a deposit and rent privately. Got a job after the baby was born."If you don't feel the bumps in the road, you're not really going anywhere "

I can imagine it was fruitless to stay in the USA as they arent mugs in terms of welfare handouts, unlike this country.A clear and innocent conscience fears nothing.:grouphug:0

I am guessing you have indefinate leave to remain?
.
The Op has refugee status not ILR. ILR is usually obtained after meeting the requirements following time spent on a visa (work permit, spousal or discretionary leave to remain etc), it is also given to those who qualify via the legacy backlog.
Refugee status is granted following a successful asylum claim.
OP- have you tried refugee action? or a local refugee charity? they may be able to offer advice.0 -
Doesn't matter whether she is a refugee, has indefinite leave to remain or has been granted humanitarian protection - see http://www.housing-rights.info/03_2_Refugees.html and http://www.housing-rights.info/03_3_ILR.html - she will be eligible for assistance.
(Bet the council starts the conversation tomorrow with trying to establish that she has no local connection with them and then tries to re-connect her to where ever they think they can get away with it)0 -
Consider living somewhere other than London, or rather the South East entirely. You do not sound as if you would be leaving behind many local 'links' and so might benefit from living in a northern city where housing is more readily available. You would be less likely to find work. Good luck0

Yep, to Hell with our own who are waiting for housing.
Should silence those who are under the illusion that refugees and immigrants do not jump the queue.
If you bother to read the OPs posts, you will see that immigration is not the reason for her current predicament. She became homeless as the result of a relationship breakdown, as many of "our own" do.0 -
Just because i come from Africa and i'm a refugee doesn't mean that i cannot speak, write or spell ENGLISH!!!! I am GENUINELY looking for help and i have been given some helpful responses. Not every refugee and immigrant is illiterate and out to drain the state. Some of us flee genuine persecution and it is difficult to ask for help when u are judged and persecuted just because u are not a stereotypical refugee.
I suppose just because i am from Africa i used to live out in the bush with lions as well????0 -
Can't you see that it is a spoof post??
Dear me, wake up! The reply by me was in the spirit of the OP .... look at how good the English is !!
Report this one too, if you wish!
I'm sorry but I don't quite understand what the level of English has to do with anything?
It might well be a wind-up (you obviously have info I don't), but it nevertheless seems very hostile and prejudiced to assume that someone cannot come from another country just because they use correct spelling, grammar and expression? Esp. as the OP says they have spent time in the UK and the USA, both English speaking countries.
English is not my first language btw - picked it up in my 20s, but people rarely accuse the language of my forum posts of being "too good" ... Either my level of linguistic ability is not as good as I thought
, or perhaps I have less sensitive issues to post about. Either way, people have valid reasons for being granted refugee status. This is entirely different from many other forms of immigration and I think you should be proud to have grown a country that does look after people in genuine danger from political upheavals, extreme poverty, etc.
(and and I am not on benefits, etc, as I arrived with a fair amount of independent wealth as a student and decided not to leave due to a good job offer. Pay my taxes, pay my mortgage, buy lots of stuff to contribute to a dynamic economy)0 -
Yeah, OK then.
The English from the OP puts most posters on here to shame ...... and that's with a UK State (or Private) education.
The aim of the OP is to get a thread bubbling from those it takes in ........ and it is not a newbie, it is an old hand at this type of thing.
Some people are just too gullible - I suppose you are the reason why I get daily scam e-mails? Because you reply to requests to 're-set' your Banking details!Bringing Happiness where there is Gloom!0
