What a great thread, I used to sew a lot in my late teens and twenties, (now 52) made all my skirts, suits, dresses even made my bridesmaid dresses, but then family came along and it sort of petered out, but 18months ago bought a new machine and have restarted sewing, mainly skirts so far as so hard to find ones that will fit, but am looking to make cushion covers too. Will watch with interest what we are all up to in the next few months0

Yey !
Finally a sewing thread - get it, sewing thread? ha ha.
On a more serious note, i lost my baby in Nov 2010.... my husband and i were devastated, as i had to go through the trauma of giving birth to our first born died at 22 weeks. It was horrific and saddening.
On a more positive note, we are pregnant again and i am due this saturday!
So why am i telling you all this? Because, it was crafting that got me through my depression, when i was at a very very low stage in my life.
I found that i wanted to make something - a wallhanging. No idea how i got this idea from, but it is now completed and up on the wall. It is bright and beautiful and says home is where the heart is. I grabbed my computer, punched in how to make a patchwork wall hanging and created something quite spectacular. I was so prooud of it, i didnt just end there, i went on to make hearts for my wicker wreath, which is now hanging by the front door, cushion covers, curtains, bunting, a cuddly rabbit, and a few other things. I have the pics all on the other computer so when i have figured out how to load it on here i will do.
Dont know why i am telling you all this! lol. Hope you dont find me strange... just needed to say, that sewing has really helped me through some difficult times and long may it continue to!

PS i have a janome 720 quilters sewing machine and its my first !! definitely made the right choice buying this machine for any budding quilters out there - it came with 5 different feet, including the free motion quilting one - and a quilters extension table. I made a rag quilt for this baby and have hung it in the nursery, so the extension table proved incredibly useful.

Starnurse what a sad story but it's good that sewing got you through it all.
Good luck with your baby hope it all turns out well. Looking forward to seeing all your makes, they all sound wonderful. Happy sewing.£180.00 in 'sistercas'fund

Shamima, don't be embarrassed at all!! I think you'll find that tons of people have been helped enormously through a variety of challenging, emotional situations by some sort of crafting. I lost my 19yr old son in 2009 and, like you I thought my world had ended (actually, it did for a while) At the time I was a card maker and have only just recently got back in to fabric and sewing, knitting etc.
I have three girls as well who needed me (still do) and a husband and sometimes the pressure of having to be there for them was huge but, having something else to focus on when you can, makes a huge difference.
Really looking forward to seeing all your makes. I'm having to wait until payday to do any more sewing as, having not sewed for a few years, I have no stash to bust but hoping that will all change soon. I'll be very excited to hear you iminent lovely news!!

sillyrabbit wrote: »I made my first bag! So pleased with it :-) It's on my blog if you want to see a pic. Followed a great tutorial online, and then hunted out a separate pocket making tute! It's made entirely from donated pieces of fabric - the only thing I bought was the interfacing, from ebay :-)
Going to have a go at making a different style of bag next - and perfect the size of pocket I need for my phone!
what a lovely bag. i keep thinking about making a bag but the instructions look so complicated!
I have just made a scarf from one of hubby's t'shirts. piccy on blog along with link to tutorial. not much sewing and i dont think they did any on the tutorial but i dont have a glue gun!I am going to make a red one tonight.
A good way to use unwanted t-shirts.

Just curious...how many of you -out there- are "materialistic". How many -out there- have great stashes of fabric ... I'll be the first to admit that I have much, too much, and it's becoming a problem...don't know where to hide it all from family ...this sort of fits in with the OCD touchy, feely thread....
are any of you willing to come clean....again..just curious...0 -
My quilting friend always says "She who dies with the most fabric wins!!!!!"
My stash is getting bigger, my excuse is I retire in a few years and may not be able to afford any then so I'm stocking up now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:o£180.00 in 'sistercas'fund
