A question about thread...
I would like a box full of pretty coloured threads... I have found a lot of cheap and not so cheap sets on amazon and ebay. Do I need cotton or poly/poly mix? I have found this on ebay or this on amazon (good reviews) I was suprised the cotton set was cheaper, though you do get a bit less. Would either be any good? I can buy decent thread at my local sewing shop but a collection that size would take more money and time to build up...June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

Re thread for sewing.
Both seem good value. It depends on the fabric you are going to sew. If you are doing patchwork and quilting they recommend using cotton thread as polyester can wear the fabric. However if you are sewing different types of fabric the polyester set might be better. Hope that helps.£180.00 in 'sistercas'fund

I've just discovered this site and there are some really good ideas here.
I started sewing about a year ago when my boyfriend bought me a Janome machine. My mum has years of experience and has given me lots of tips.
I have been making lots of bags as they make great presents and don't take too long to make. I found buying material quite expensive though, so have resorted to buying skirts in charity shops and cutting them up! Have had really great results and it's so much cheaper. A while ago I wanted some purple cord and it was £15 metre in the sewing shop, so I just went along to the charity shop and bought myself a cord skirt for £2 and made a bag out of that instead.
I hope I've posted this correctly as it's my first attempt!0 -

I do the same! Or i buy cheap/2nd hand pillow cases. I bought a bedspread for £2.50 and made simple curtains for the kitchen (to go under the worktop).:T“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning,
