Welcome to the MSE forums fen.
I'm sure your post will help some.
To cut the cost to a more reasonable level though, checking whether the geographical number of the PC World store you want to contact is listed on SayNoTo0870.com may be worthwhile.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Teacher2301 wrote: »I am a teacher and the literacy of our children is bad enough without having children's books publishing text type eg 'coz' for because and now we as a nation can't even spell - what next!
DO you think I'm taking the criticism too personally?
Possibly not. Your behaviour may have been childlike, but I can understand the frustration. Your spelling, grammar and punctuation, however, are to be ashamed of, especially for a teacher...
1) "eg 'coz' for because" should read "e.g. 'coz' for 'because' ", and should probably have some sort of punctuation around it
2) "what next !" should read "what next ?"
[previous postings:]
3) "i bore him down through the beauraucracy of educational wit" - no capitalisation of personal pronoun, and mis-spelling of bureaucracy
4) "Hallaluha" - Hallelujah ?
5) "ever heard of sarcasm!! " - should use question marks, not exclamations
6) "hence the reason why I complained " - you can use "Hence" or "why" but not both in the same sentence.
7) "a lightheated story" - turn up to gas mark 3 for 20 minutes, or alternatively spell it properly.
I make these points not to humiliate or enrage you, but simply to remind you that each message you post should be relevant to the thread (and I appreciate the irony of this current message in that regard). You and I may be (reasonably) well-educated in the use of correct English, but a large proportion of the population is not, and you shouldn't set about attacking people simply because they cannot spell or punctuate properly. Or at least, if you wish to do so you should go to pedants-r-us.org.uk (OK, I made that up) rather than this forum which is about money saving rather than saving the English language from abuse.
Oh yes. Getting back on topic... moneysavers may also find that pressing * works with some VR providers.0 -
I have a Scottish accent and often the voice recognition systems will not respond. If I get fed up, I keep silent and get put through. Other times, I speak in French and get put through! Come on guys...0

Good tip, I have had a nightmare with British Gas trying to give them correct final reading as I have just switched away. After many calls (to and from India I think) and unsolicited calls from them for a final incorrect bill with people who could not comprehend the problem and being redirected to lines which left you on hold and then went dead; I rang them and just kept pressing the hash key, more in anger than to try and get through:
Not only did I get through, the person who answered was clearly British entirely helpful and sorted all my problems without switching me to another department or putting me on hold to talk to their supervisor etc.
Still wont go back to British Gas though!0 -
Where did you find Sky's email addr?! I have never been able to. Likewise, Orange Wanadoo is very coy about theirs. They prefer tel contact as it is more profitable.
My apologies for not seeing this before I found it in amongst all their jargon on their website, I still have sky's email address for HEAD of customer services.. as my first ever complaint to sky was so severe (I was prepared to take them to court) The head of customer services immediately took over, now I email him direct and he usually passes it to one of his team but at least it gets answered0
