In January 2011 I owed £22,622 on my mortgage.

I checked my mortgage balance today and I owe £13,094.
That means I managed to pay off £9528 in 2011 by making overpayments of £430 each month.

Today I paid in £3000 to start off my new year and my monthly payment of £379 has yet to go in so I will be starting the year with a mortgage of under £10,000 - how amazing is that!:D

I've also upped my monthly overpayment to £550 for as long as I can manage it. (I may have to take a pay cut this year)

I am determined to be mortgage free this year - even if it takes until December. I reckon it's definitely do-able an really rather exciting as this will be 8 years early!

Yep, very well done :T. I share your excitement at being so close, as I too hope to have saved enough to pay off my mortgage this year (depends on redemption fees etc though whether I actually do get rid of it this year). Very best of luck to you.
