    Yay! It's my favourite day....PAYDAY!:j:money::T

Well, I couldn't keep up the heady heights of last month, as I have an electricity bill expected and a slightly larger than expected credit card bill (though still much lower than this time last year, that's for sure :T). I'm also socialising more in May :rotfl:

But I've pulled together £700 for my May overpayment, and am hoping to add to this if my electricty bill is less than I've estimated (it had better be! ;))

I've updated my siggy with the total saved so far this year.

Many thanks in advance for updating the spreadsheet for me, Spiggle. You're doing a grand job as always :T

    every OP counts

Thanks Spigs you are so right! - THIS is the reason why this challenge is so amazing - to be reminded of the positives when all seems a bit gloomy..

I revisited my spreadsheet this morning, with a fresher set of eyes and a sunnier outlook and have spotted my daily interest is now only £3.94 - sub £4. That's got to be something to feel good about.

    Thank you for the support.

I do love the support on this website, really hope I can join this group soon. I'm currently a wannabe first time buyer attempting to haggle down the price of a flat. Already planning to move a lodger in and overpay as soon as I buy it! Fingers crossed!

Titchy little OP from No 139. April's update of £60
have spotted my daily interest is now only £3.94 - sub £4. That's got to be something to feel good about.

Absolutely and your OP of £60 has paid for for over 15 days worth of interest - definitely better than a slap in the chops. Every penny/pound counts!

If I OP'd £60 then it would buy another 5 house bricks ;)
  • Now today I am confused. As I do everyday I checked my bank account on line and had a look at my mortgage and to my horror the amount owing had gone UP by £104 over night! Now obviously at the end of the mouth it goes up when they add the interest but today is not the end of the month. I have phoned them (Halifax) and they are trying to tell me that it is to do with the product fee of £999 :( which I took out with the mortgage in 2008. I am not convinced this is right! Has anyone else had this experience. Have to say I did once check my account online and my mortgage had gone down by £6500 - on that occassion I never bothered phoning them but they corrected it a couple of days later. :o

    Hi Lighthouse

I can't comment on your mortgage but I also have a Halifax mortgage

Mine is daily interest but they only add the daily interest once a month (its seems to be 1st)

However if I make a payment to the mortgage mid-month then they apply the daily interest incurred upto that date to the mortgage value

Then when the 1st comes around the apply the interest for the rest of the month

    For Example

I pay £20 on 20th of the Month
The £20 gets deducted from the Mortgage Value
But they add the interest incurred for between 1st - 20th. (The balance looks as if it's gone up because the Interest applied is more than the payment deducted) Then on the 1st of the following month they apply the interest for 21st - 31st.

Has a small OP been made to the account since last you looked at the balance?

Why a product fee from 2008 would suddenly make your mortgage go up by £104 is beyond me - sounds like whomever you were talking to perhaps misunderstood what you were saying or were talking a load of guff (probably due to lack of training / experience). Ring back and speak to somone else.

I check mine every month to see how much it's gone down by. Checked it again last weekend when I started my diary and the total had gone up by about £30.

I wondered if it was connected to the recent rate rise, but didn't investigate.

The Halifax SVR rise is effective 1st May, from 3.5% to 3.99%

    Hi All,

Quick visit and then I'll log back on later.

That's a fantastic OP LavenderBees which is recorded for you. Thank you for your kind words too.

Wow, Maybe_its_because that's brilliant on the daily interest rate. All power to your elbow!

Good luck on your haggling bodmil! You will be most welcome to join us when you've completed your purchase.

Hmmm, it is confusing lighthousescotland. I tend to agree with curlygirl and advise ringing them again as the rep sounds as if they are more confused than you!

As always curlygirl, wise and supportive words which we all appreciate.

ETA: Sorry VoucherMan I didn't see your contribution to the discussion until after I'd posted my reply. I wasn't ignoring you honestly!

    OK, see you this evening,

  • Thank you Curlygirl and Voucherman,

I think what may have happened is that I phoned them last week asking for my standard payment to stay the same when they were asking me to reduce this. This may have prompted them to calculate interest up to that point. Will keep an eye on it in the hope that interest added at the end of the month will be less! :)
