I had purchased Office 2010 for a laptop and successfully loaded the disc with product key etc - i have now bought an acer aspire but as it doesn't have a disc drive i presume i can't load office 2010 onto it - when i entered the product key it said it was incorrect anyway???
everytime someone sends an attachment these days it seems to be an office 2010 one that i can't open - anyone help please?

Hi,
Have you got a USB key?
Put the disc in the laptop with a disc drive in it. Copy all the files from the disc onto your USB key.
Put the USB key into your new laptop and run the install from there.
Before you do this, completely remove Office (if there is a trial version on there) from the new PC.
When you bought Office 2010 was it a 3 licence version or just 1 licence (usually when you buy the home version it is 3 licence but a business version is usually 1 licence).
Hope this helps.0 -
Copy it to a flash drive and install it from that. Or borrow an external USB DVD drive.
However unless you have a multiple licence for Office then you wil not be able to use it on more than one device.
If so, Libre Office or Open Office are free alternatives to MS Office that will do the job just as well, anc can both read and save in Office file formats. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
thanks both, to be honest it was my husband who brought the disc home with the product key written down - i have installed it on two laptops - my husband has now left us and although we are still speaking (just!) i dont want to ask him - so do you think that i have used up my licence thenThe mind is like a parachute. They are normally single or 3-licence editions-what does it say on the DVD?
No way anyone can tell you that, if you're up to the limit then it won't activate.
If so install Libre Office. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
macman which would you say is best then libre or openThe mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work unless it’s open.:o

Libre would be my choice. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
There isn't much difference between Libre and Open at the moment, but long-term support and further development for Open Office is unlikely; go to Libre.
BUT, it's very "old fashioned" if you're used to Office 2010; it's more like the old Office 2003 interface.I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.0 -

Have you downloaded it, saved it to the programs folder and run the installer? You need to give more info, not just 'not working'. Error messages? No free lunch, and no free laptop0
