I keep receiving a strange file (San Francisco phone, Android OS, Three network)

Every evening I keep receiving a text message from my Mum with a 1KB file attached but no message. She has not sent anything and wouldn't know how to, but every evening I keep receiving the file. I delete it for security reasons and do not click "download". Does anyone know what this could be? An attempted virus attack perhaps?

Does your mum's outbox show these messages as being sent each time?

Could you ask her to switch off her phone in the evenings and see if you still receive the texts?

These tests might be useful in narrowing down the cause.

Also worth remembering that if your mum accidentally sent the message as an MMS, just once, the message centre will keep trying to deliver it for a while.

Thanks for the responses. That is exactly what happened, Mum found an MMS in her outbox which she must have sent accidentally and has been charged 30p on her bill. So, it is obviously resending itself a few times. Hopefully it will give up soon.
