Mortgage redemption sent to me not solicitor?

Options
Does this sound correct?I have been sent the mortgage redemption by my curent lender( soon to change to another lneder) and it states weve been unable to contact your solicitor so please pass this on.
I complete on Monday,so pretty tight.I've posted it today.
Maybe this is my existing lender being a little less helpful than hey should or my solicitor.
Contacted my existing lender and they said they could give them the redmption within 20 minutes if they hadnt already asked for it,if they were on some system. If theyre not on this system then the completion could be held up if at completion my solicitor doensnt have this mortgage redemption paperwork.

You're selling and redeeming a mortgage?
And buying with a new mortgage?

    And you've instructed a solicitor?
And got a quote from the solicitor for his services that includes the two mortgages?
And given him the details of the 2 mortgages?

    Sounds like an incompetant solicitor!
    (or incompetant mortgage lender!)
  • When did you exchange contracts?

I tend to request redemption statements as soon as exchange takes place. This allows plenty of time to receive the paperwork. Most lenders will provide statements via fax, some even instantly online.

If a redemption statement hasn't been received circa 4-5 days before completion I would ring the lender and chase it along.

I would have words with your solicitor to see how the problem has arisen, it may just be the lender. I can think of one particular lender who is known to be difficult in respect of redemptions.

Yes all of the above.Thats what I was thinking, why should the paperwork be sent me at this stage?Surely either my current lender of the solicitor has screwed up somewhere!
I've sent this paperwork off by post and will also email it.Is there likeley to be any problems at completion time due to this paperwork being sent to me and at a late stage?
  • Which lender is it?
    RICHARD WEBSTER

As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.
  • Which lender is it?

    Woolwich Barclays, I bet!
