  • just rang up halifax, all i had was the mortgage roll number, and the nice woman on the phone admitted that a refund of £125 was due, they had charged us £175 in august 2006 when the agreed figure was £50 in August 1999.

cheque in the post, should arrive within 28 days, not bad for a 5 minute call

    Hi,

We have a mortgage with Cheltenham and Gloucester and a year ago remortgaged with them. We were told at the time that there would be no adminstration charges as we were exsisting customers(but we would have to pay legal costs). But low and behold we were charged, , we phoned constantly and were eventually told that someone would look into the matter, we then followed it up with a letter in the hope that this might help. We heard nothing and had almost given up hope:, until we recently visited our mortgage advisor who said she would chase it up.

We recieved a letter from C&G 2 weeks ago stating someone would be in touch etc and it went quiet, until today........ they are refunding us the grand total of £496.71(including £22.71 interest):j :j :rotfl:

Can't believe it! it is more than we expected!Fantastic!
( a big thanks to to our advisor who works for Lloyds, she was great:T )
I like to take one day at a time....but quite often several days attack me at once...
  • Having read the info on how to claim back Mortgage Exit fees, I set about using the template letter on this site. It only took me about 10 minutes. I posted the letter on Monday and received a cheque on the Friday.

My claim was against the Skipton Building Society. They charged us £175 in July 2006, when we paid off our small mortgage. They refunded £130, stating that at the time we took out our mortgage in 1998, the fee was £45. So we were refunded the difference.

Don't hesitate if you're in the same position, it's a piece of cake and well worth it!!

thanks for the advice I rang yorkshire building society having redeemed my mortgage last year and been charged £199.00 mortgage exit administration fee

less than one month later I have received a cheque for £ 125.50!
  • After using the guide letter from this web site , and not having any documentation from the Halifax mortgage I had recently 18 months paid off. I received £40. Halifax informed me my original agreement had said £0 so they were giving my a full refund ? but because I do not know what I paid, £40 is beeter than nothing.

    Thanks for you help.

Today we recieved a cheque for £125 from ANBS. It only took about a week. Incidentally if anyone sends of a form and then gets another, don't just assume they have lost the first - wait a couple of days before filling in again. We sent our second form straight off but the cheque came anyway the day after so could have saved the postage and time. But still mighty pleased. Thanks everyone

When we redeemed our mortgage with the Yorkshire Building Society last year, we were charged £199 redemption fee. On checking our original paperwork, the fee table when we arranged our mortgage showed that the "Redemption/sealing fee" was £55. Among the other fees listed was a "Deeds production fee" of £45.

I phoned YBS and wrote a follow-up letter seeking a refund of the appropriate amount (without specifying). I hoped we might get £144 (the difference between the £199 we were charged and the original £45 redemption fee in the contract).

We have just had YBS' reply, with a cheque for £99. The covering letter asserts that both the Deeds Production fee and the Redemption/sealing fee are deemed to be what the FSA calls the Mortgage Exit Administration Fee... so both are chargeable (total £100). Hence YBS were refunding the difference of £99.

It seems a touch disingenuous, verging on sharp practice, to charge two fees for a single redemption action. And it is misleading to list two separate fees in their tariff: is redemption ever possible without deeds-production, or deeds-production ever done independently of redemption?

But I am not inclined to quibble, and plan to bank the £99 - with thanks to MSE Martin for highlighting the issue.
