I have attempted to reclaim this over the phone but was told that from December 2004 this fee was mentioned in the paperwork so I have no grounds to claim. The mortgage was taken out before this date but NatWest are saying that as I would have received statements between 2004 and 2006 the increased fee would have shown.

    Are they correct?

If the fee was £225 at the start of the mortgage or at the time of the last deal you purchased with them, then you are not entitled to any refund.

The last deal with them is the key thing for most people as you may have had a lower charge when you started but its the last deal you bought that matters.

If you didnt buy a new mortgage deal (i.e. fixed, discount etc) after December 2004 then they are wrong in their interpretation of the FSA ruling.

  • thank you

The mortgage was taken out before the hike in fees.

Have sent the letter off and await the response.

I thought their reasoning didn't sound right, thank you for confirming.

    Cheers

  • I had a mortgage with halifax which we moved in 2001 I didnt know how much i paid but phoned them up and they checked whilst I was on phone and said they will send me a cheque for £35. Thank you!
  • Hello There,

I've just made early repayment of my mortgage with Coventry. I phoned them up to discuss the possibility of them waiving or at least reducing their charges for completion. The completion charges were £125.00 Redemption Fee and £117.50 Legal Fee. I was very surprised to be told that there were no completion fees whatever. The lady then explained that they really are TLC not PLC.

    Regards
    Bernard

Was told that the cheque should be received in 3-5 days.

I didn't request a total figure, as it's like waiting to find out if you are having a boy or girl ;)

    Hi all

I know i'm being really dumb and have looked through the thread but can't seem to get the info i need.

I had mortgages with Bank of Scotland (2002-2003), Abbey (2003-2006) and Cheshire BS (2006-2007)

How do I know if I have a claim? I have absolutely no paperwork from these mortgages now.
If I do have a claim is there a template letter?

sorry for being so dumb :)
