They are not required to give you a breakdown and dont have to add interest. You could push for interest but is it worth the time and money spent getting it?
    ok thanks :p

Well I think you're totally unreasonable. Don't you realise that the banks have to steal your money in order to pay into the likes of Sir Fred Goodwin's pension coffers in return for the excellent job he did in contributing to the near collapse of the financial system?

I was being a bit tongue in cheek.

I support your claim absolutely. The bank effectively stole your money. I think that they should offer you a gesture for doing so. I would write to them saying just that, and ask them how many thousands or even millions of other people's money they have stolen in the same way. Also you should ask them what systems they propose to put in place to ensure that this will not happen again, and just as important, what are they actually proposing to do to ensure that others in the same situation as yourself are handed their money back.

Just browsing the site last week & lit upon the Exit fee reclaim , phoned the claim number given in the guide on Friday , by Tuesday we had an offer of £50 ( our exit fee was £100 in 2004 ), decided to accept.
    Thanks

  • Just wanted to report success with claiming fees from Northern Rock.
After reading Martins article, i checked over my old paperwork to find they had charged £90 over our agreed fee to close the mortgage. I wrote to them at the end of September using the template on this site and had a response within 2 weeks to say they were looking into my claim and a letter 2 weeks later upholding their decision.
I received the cheque on Friday, all in all 5 weeks from the initial letter and very well handled by NR!!!
    Nice one MSE, thanks
