If you scroll down to p45 on this link you'll see that many Investment Trust savings schemes have zero or low charges. Since many of the trusts themselves have low management charges, this may be a way of investing in shares that will interest you.

Dont know about the Jupiter Merlin but the other two are highly regarded funds in their sectors. I have held M&G Recovery for nearly 20 years - average annual return 6.5%, better than a FTSE tracker.

There are no comparable trackers in their sectors. There are people around here who are happier with trackers as they give the fund managers less, personally I am only interested in the return that comes to me.

    agree in all respects.

It was originally £20 into each fund, I did it through the building society

I'm now putting £100 into each fund through H&L but that can ( and probably will ) change depending on circumstances

Sorry if I didn't make that clear

I almost cried when I read this first.

having seen you post over the last few years I KNEW you were too clued up to go to a BANK for advice lol. Then I saw the date ;-) And that you switched out o cheaper.

I started off in the late 90s investing the CB online, then also started drip feeding 50+20 per month (soon increased to more and in more trusts) into investment trust savings plans. Even the one that got only 20 per month is a substantial amount now.

So you prove that even over a few years good things can grow from small seeds.
