Got a little boy in our family the same age as your godson - he loves Lego, stickers, books, colouring pens (washable ones to keep his mum happy).0

Yep, Lego- he'll spend long enough in front of the computer/ console when he's older.
Smellies/ make up/ make up lesson for the girls? Maybe a session in the salon and afternoon tea with their fabulous new auntie! They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

Wow - thanks for all the suggestions people.
I've gone down the lego route and just ordered a farm lego set (nothing to do with my 35 yo OH going "oh, that looks fun, I'd have loved one of those!)
Will keep an eye of for crafty girly things.
I love the idea of make up lesson and nails stuff but at 12 and 9 I think they are a little young ( I know I'm probably way out of touch here). Think that could be something I do when they turn teenages.
Thanks again for all the ideas

For craft things for girls, how about looking on Crafty Crocodiles? Loads of different things - I've just ordered a pile of stuff for Brownies and it arrived the following day. Better prices than Yellow Moon as well.
Home Bargains also have crafty stuff at good prices. In my local HB this week, I've seen denim pencil case kits to decorate; bag to decorate with fabric pens; craft boxes with pompoms, pipe cleaners, lolly sticks, etc; fashion designer sets (sellign for twice the price everywhere else!)
Another idea is stationery. I have yet to meet a girl who doesn't like decent coloured pens (Stabilo are expensive, but good), fancy notebooks, files and other stationery items. If your budget is limited, Wilkinsons have some really nice stuff and you can but a few things to make a matching set. I recently treated myself to some files and folders with a purple background and a butterfly pattern, but they had lots more items.0 -
My 9 year old dd loves the Klutz books, there are loads to choose from. Fashion Angels books are really good too, you get loads of pictures and stencils to design stuff according to a certain theme, eg. rock stars, models, make up...
Djeco do some really cool and unusual art and craft stuff too, it's not cheap but it's beautifully presented and really good quality.0
