o2 retention query

Hi guys,

This is my first thread, so apologies if this is discussed elsewhere.

I am thinking of leaving o2, and called them to inform them as such. I saw a better deal from Tesco Mobile, and thought I could save money by switching.

The woman in the o2 call centre offered me a retention deal of 300 minutes & unlimited texts, no data, for £5.50 per month. This was on a simplicity SIM only 12 month contract. The next day, someone different from o2 called me and stated that the other woman had made an error, and they couldn't offer me that deal as data had to be included in the offer. So he offered me the same package, BUT added 100MB of data per month, as apparently "it had to be included to get the deal", which was £8.50 per month.

So basically, are they just trying to bump up the retention deal they are offering me, or is it a legitimate mistake? Should I demand that they offer me the cheaper price the woman quoted in the first instance, or do I have to like it or lump it?

Any advice would be appreciated, I have 2 hours before he calls me back :)

Looks like a mistake to me and I think you are in a position to ask, not demand.
  • Of course, I wouldn't "demand" per se, poor phrasing there. Thanks for the reply

i think you could remove the data bolt on which costs you £3 a month for the 100mb.
simples, just call back their CS and ask them to remove it from your account. You need to give a 30 days notice to remove it so first month you have to pay £8.5 a month but once after you remvoed your data it may come down to £5.5 a month from next month onwards.

OK, thanks :). So his statement about the data having to be included for the 12 months is wrong? That's great news if true.

Yup, as part of the deal you might need to take the bolt-on, but you can remove it online pretty much straight away or call customer services and give your 30 days notice to remove the bolt-on.
  • Take the deal and once its all sorted remove the data
