We have been there a few times and love it . The tappas ( for those that don`t know what one is its a small dish or food traditionally served with wine or beer in Spain) are free and they are the best . The tappas are not small like other parts of spain . There are some great tappas bars near the river down the side of the Alambra - ask hotel for directions. Other good tappas bars in the town centre.
A little spanish is usefull so a phrase book may help( you will get by on english so dont worry )
The open top buses there are great , just buy a ticket and hop on and off all day .
You may be going to southern spain but dont expect it to be warm this time of year, hat and scarf and big coat needed.
As mentioned before the sierra nevada is great, its so amazing to find so much snow in spain . You dont have to ski when you go there ,still use the chairlifts and you will find husky rides and sledging there.
Everbody seems to really like the Alambra but it was not really our thing, sadly it just looked like some old bricks to use but we are the same wherever we go when it comes to old buildings ( we spent time at the alambra looking over the walls spotting tappas bars in Granada for the evening ahead, ).
Granada is a peacefull place and we felt safe even late at night but beware of the gipsies near the Cathedral that try sell you scruffy flowers- just keep walking and watch your wallet / purse in this area.
Im sure you will love it there .
If you do go to Nerja you could visit the caves there .
All around that area you will find cheap Lidl supermarkets for stocking up on booze .

Cordoba is a wonderful city and nearer than Sevilla. The Mezquita-Catedral (Mosque-Cathedral) is a World Heritage site and is absolutely stunning. (I think it's 6 euros to go in unless you go when a service is on like we did).
Cordoba also has a large picturesque river (the Guadalquivir) which has loads of water in it - unusual in southern Spain.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
