Best short term internet option

A friend is off travelling in 4 months, they're currently just using their mobile phone.

Is a PAYG mobile BB dongle the best solutuion or is it possible to get cable or adsl internet short term?

What is the best deal at the moment?

I had a three dongle when we moved home, that was good... but...

  • Cable is 12 months (9 months for students)

You can get ADSL broadband on a month to month contract. However if you don't have a line set up already, you'll probably find yourself paying £85+ just to get the phone line set up for it. Then perhaps another £40 to "activate" the ADSL, and then spending in the region of £30/mo+. Then another £30+ when the ADSL is decommisioned.

So if you can get a good 3G/MBB signal - which in some cases, though not typical, is faster than ADSL anyway, the decision might make itself.

Southern Electric do Broadband contract free i think.
  • For a laptop a "MiFi" type device is quite handy.

If it is unlocked then it might also be useful when travelling.

Also it allows the experimentation with different networks if the first one has poor coverage.

My old ISP TitanADSL has short term contracts. If you are looking for phone and broadband they have a package which has a 3 month min term might be worth a look!
