Sim only with Virgin when can i upgrade?

My OH has just been accepted for a 30 day rolling contract with Virgin (only company who will accept him due to previous bad credit) this will be paid every month in full by direct debit, when can he upgrade to a full contract or are they unable to do this and he would have to have another credit check in how ever many months time?

We are trying to increase his credit score atm.

Thanks

I don't know why you want a 'full contract', but this will not help more with improving the credit score than a rolling sim-only contract does.

He does not have a "credit score" but a credit record with the likes of experian. The credit score is a number generated by a company internally based on their view of your record and their internal policy. The score for a similar contract with O2 and orange may be different even though the amount of credit is similar due to the differing companies scoring policies.

Moving contracts will generate more searches making him look like he's desperate for credit.

Best thing he can do is build a history of paying on time and not taking on credit commitments he cannot pay back. Anyone looking at his record for a credit score will be more interested in his ability to manage his credit reliably rather than how much credit he has.

Look at it simply. If you were to lend me £100. What would you look at? How much I had already borrowed from others or how likely I was to pay you back, obviously it's he likel you are to be paid back.
  • Thanks for the advice, his phone is on its last legs atm and would like a full contract but if he is unable to get one, then ill have to buy him one on pay as you go and stick the Virgin sim card in that one.

Just remember to buy a Virgin PAYG handset, as the others will be network locked and prevent you from doing this.

T-mobile handsets don't need unlocking to work on Virgin I believe.
