Speaking of money, I have a £10 note that has been cut in two right down the middle . Can I sellotape it back together or will that look dodgy?
I'd Sellotape it together so you don't lose the pieces and then exchange it at the bank for a whole one. If the serial numbers match there should be no problems. From time to time, I get Sellotaped notes and I don't think one has ever been refused when I've passed it on.
I've had a £50 note refused though, had to go into Barclays on a Saturday afternoon to exchange that.
One of the nicest things I saw after I left home was that my Mum was finally able to put a store cupboard together. When we were kids she shopped 4-5 times a week - no fridge or freezer then but a cold pantry. It was lovely to see full shelves in her cupboard and pantry - and eventually, the fridge.
The fridge had to be kept in an outhouse as there was no room for it in the kitchen.
Oddly enough, my house - though 16 years younger than hers- is the same. My fridge-freezer is under the stairs which is an open space, and the second freezer is in the utility room (actually it's an outhouse, tbh). Fuddle, I'm glad you were able to dismiss your short-sighted friend's insults.
Well done on the new fridge GQ.
Softstuff, my friend lives in Little Mountain, btw.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
If anyone is considering keeping a small amount of 'just in case'cash indoors it is suggested that you keep it as coins rather than notes as in difficult times cash machines and notes would be the only accessible cash and having change might mean an easier transaction. Hope this helps Lyn.0

Morning Peeps - horrid day here
Congrats on the arrival of a bouncing baby fridge GQ, boy or girl, what are you going to call it?See, you're my kinda people, you know domestic applicances must have names. I've decided it's a Millie (Millie/Miele geddit?) and it will be switched on shortly, after I have unwrapped its shelves. It has glass shelves so if anything spills, it won't have to be cleaned off whatever is stored below. Happiness.

In all the years I have been buying fresh pineapple I have never before seen one in seed. We are going to let them dry for a couple of days and then sow them on some compost and keep them warm and see if they germinate, how exciting is that - (bearing in mind that I do lead a very sheltered life in general!) woohoo!!!!! Cheers Lyn x.Wow! I'd be up for that. Perhaps if you tried it in the airing cupboard it might think it was in the tropics?
PS I don't get out much, either!Happy Fridge Day GQ! I'm very happy for you. I look forward to one day getting a frost free one, since every time I have to defrost this one hubby and I suffer through the same few days of odd meals that you just had.
You notice I said my waist is a 10, not my chest, that's still disproportionate and will likely remain so unless I win the lotto and have em reduced. And coincidentally I'm 5'9" too! Never say never about dropping weight further though, I never thought I'd hit a size 10 let alone maybe head smaller.
Ahh, a wee bit more internet whilst I finish my tea and then I shall go admire Millie the Miele. Once it's sunk to operational temperature, I shall go t'Co Op as I've just had my membership card come thru the post. I shall go via a couple of c.s. and the army surplus store. I like army surplus stores.:o Honestly, I worry myself sometimes...........:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hello everyone
PS Thank you Malcolm for the helpful info about the Eon bill - we have been on a fixed tariff but this comes to an end in September so I do need to look at alternatives. Unfortunately the bill is based on meter readings (how I wish it was just an over-estimation!) so I do need to have a think about ways to cut back on our usage, without anyone getting hypothermia in the winter!
No problem Evie, glad to help.
We'll send a letter just before your current fixed tariff ends letting you know the end date. We'll also tell you about the tariff your account will automatically go on to after this date if we don't hear from you.
This will be one of our standard tariffs. These are generally not as competitive as some of our other tariffs but they don't have any tie-ins or restrictions leaving you free to change supplier if you wish.
Tariffs change all the time and it may be best to see what's available just before your current tariff ends.
Our offerings are always on our website but, as I said earlier, the best way is to pop your usage on to one of the independent comparison sites. Just a tip here, always use kWh rather than monthly spend as it's much more accurate.
Hope this helps Evie.

Yep - cos you'll be a mile away and you will have their shoes!! :rotfl:
Greetings from across the Pond - pre flight wine and in flight wine made the experience bearable. Harry Potter saw me through a few hours. Wierd to think that I am waiting to go to breakfast and you've all just had lunch - except softstuff who is probably fast asleep!!
Congratulations on the safe arrival of Millie - GQ
Fuddle - don't let them get to you. You are right and they are wrong, so there!
Oh yay the sun is out. But apparently it is forecast rain all week and unseasonably cool - the weather knew I was coming.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

I have just read the destructions which come with Millie and have bathed all the accessories and the interior. I was such a proud parent that I broke out a brand new snowy white dishcloth for the occasion, too.:o Millie is now connected to the power and settling down to cool. I shouldn't load food in until 2 hours have passed so I shall potter around online a bit longer before going for a leisurely shopping trip around the c.s. and culminating in the Co Op and then my return should be about the 2 hour point.
Some people travel the world.......and then there's me.:p;)
It'll be quite a novel experience having a fridge which doesn't periodically go KLUNK! as Mr Beko was wont to do in his dotage.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I have to tell you that I too will become a new mummy this week.My present fridge is 10 years old and for quite a while has been going strange, I'll not go into detail. Sunday it breethed it's last. I am now waiting for my new fridge freezer. I am so excited. I am glad there is someone who knows how I feel. Congatulations on your little one Grey Queen0

I'm not yet ready to move on from our 26 year old Husqvarna larder fridge. The new ones just don't seem as solid. But Husky is sounding- well, husky to be honest.
Another thing stopping me is that we have a gap which is 182 cm high with a cupboard over. Husky is 170 high so there is a small space which is perfect for trays. However the standard height for tall fridges is now 186cm. So it would be a major upheaval. It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0
