fuddle curtains are easy to make.
If the selvedges (sides) are already hemmed start at the bottom hem first and do both curtains. If you need to hem the sides do that first then the bottom hem, check they are both the same length, I lay them on the floor.
It is much easier to get them level and straight if you do them this way. Then hem the top and sew on the tape. Done.0 -
I used to work in Chester-Le-Street
In the precinct, the service 'shop' beginning with S and has a sun as it's logo. I'm born and bread yon side of Chester - an old mining village beginning with S
I live about 30 miles away now and haven't been to C for at least 10 years but given the chance (my nearest Boyes and itching to get there) i'll make it a Friday. Thanks for that.
I was born and bred in Newcastle, but have lived in Stanley for thirty years now.
I like the slower pace of life here.:DGive us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -
I'm part South Stanley
I've priced up the fabric and it's going to cost £25 for the fabric and then the linings. I've seen some in Argos that I can get, two pairs will cost me total of £30 so I'm going to get those and take them up to fit.
Got £17 back from the road tax when we sold the car so that will go towards it.0 -

If RV moans about about slow cooker point out it only uses the electricity of a light bulb. My DH loves the slow cooker and I thought mine was faulty as the level kept being less than I expected once cooked. Mystery solved when I came downstairs at 7 in the morning to find him scoffing home made curry from it!;)
Bit miffed with dh as yesterday he said he wanted pork for Sunday lunch - so showed him smoked gammon joint and also an unsmoked pork loin and let him choose. He chose pork loin! Today he is disappointed as he expected more fat - turned out he had neither looked properly at the choices or listened to what he was being asked. Might as well just choose things myself from now on as he seems to have no clue what he wants or likes except feeling he is somehow missing out by dds liking more interesting meals.
DD coming home tonight after a couple of days in Wales so popping out to shops for a nice dessert and will do a stir fry later. Other dd finishes work at 5 so have Sunday lunch plated up to heat later.

Hi all
I used to be a regular poster on here but life got in the way and I have not posted for months. Have been lurking for the last couple of weeks. Its great to see so many familiar names and so many new ones. I don't stand a chance of keeping up with all of the posts but will try to.
Mr VP has been working for four months now and earning a wage (no more commission only jobs for him thank goodness). I have carried on with extra shifts until he got past the 3 month trial and have started to reduce my hours back down to full time which means weekends off and a bit of me time. With the debts he racked up money is still a problem but I really feel like we are getting somewhere.
Both girls have finished their exams. Youngest has a place at college depending on results and eldest has a place a uni depending on grades.
It rained hard last night but is a lovely sunny windy day today, the washing is blowing on the line and life feels good.
Its good to be back
Mrs VPI am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

Hello everyone
Welcome back Mrs VP :T
Possession Can I move into your house please? We have more than a few books, but don't think we have 1000 kids books. We do have some old copies of Alice and Ali Baba etc I also have 1950s copies of all the Dr Dolittle books which are very non pc.
Thank you for the advice re Jasper Fforde. I've decided that a bag of homemade marshmallows is much less stalkerish than a full sized dodo in cake form.
Yesterday I went to visit my family. My nephew is now 16 months old, definitely a toodler and has all the women in the family as willing slaves. I got used as a pillow for naptime and had a great time. DBIL was very impressed with the marshmallows as were the rest of the family
Today I've made it to Tesco and back, which is an achievement as they have bunting stretched across the middle aisle all down the shop. It flashes and waves as you walk under it and is a major migraine trigger for me. I'm sure that makes sense to fellow migraine sufferers. DH trying to fit the new house alarm and crawling all over the attic over where I was trying to sleep didn't help
All this talk of stew means I'm making a huge batch of savoury mince for dinner. I've put more green lentils in than I have before so I hope my lot will still eat it. I might add some dumplings in if there is enough space in the saucepan.
I'd better go and see what havoc DH is making. Judging by the creaks and bangs the ceiling could come down at any minute.
Take care xxxxxxxx0 -
Mrs VP - its lovely that you are back.
Mardatha - I do hope your stew turned out ok.
Have been mega busy since yesterday, today was the big summer fete event for DS support group and I promised to make cakes. I decided that as everyone else seemed to be making childrens cakes I would make more grown up ones. But they are obviously more difficult and time consuming.
Took me about four hours but managed to make 12 iced buns, 4 large coffee cakes and 4 large fruit cakes. But the kitchen looked like a war zone afterwards.
Took them to fete and all seemed to sell very well, which was a relief as there were loads of kids cakes left over.
DS8 has caught a cold so stayed home today which gave me a chance to trial my new incentive scheme, attempting to teach him authority and get him to obey people ( other than me). It actually worked really well and he was very proud of himself when I came home. So I think I may well extend it to cover school too.
Am really tired now though so am hoping for a peaceful evening before yet another busy day tomorrow.0 -
Edit: Ooops I appear to have posted twice, weird. Might as well make use of this, have been enjoying the unseasonable food discussions.
We had a pork casserole last night, rather than thicken with gravy granules as per usual, I used a B&M Bargains Colman's casserole packet - this was sooo nice.
I did jazz it up with a bit of Lea & Perrins, but it was a pleasant surprise as I've fought shy of these ready-made mixes.
Back to Trip Advisor, some of the posts do make me laugh, especially the negative ones where you know they only paid £49 for a coach trip, dinner, bed and breakfast. I wonder if such people really have no concept of what rooms can cost normally.
My favourite 'hotel' story just jumped into my mind, so I'll tell it. Some years ago I did some training based at a local hotel's conference suite and one of the other delegates had an amusing tale. He was a powerfully built guy with the shaven head common to many of that build, but had a brilliant personality.
A few years previous he was doing some different training, also at a hotel and far from home. He arrived early one evening for training the following day.
He'd had a few drinks in the bar and on going to bed got the munchies. So he ordered a cheese sandwich, took it to bed and fell asleep.
The following morning he woke up bleary - eyed and realised the training was about to start. So he threw on his shirt and suit and rushed down unshaven.
He was aware of several incredulous stares in the conference room so said to the person next to him:
"I guess I must look quite a sight, unshaven and bleary eyed, hey?"
"Er, no" came the reply. "Everyone's staring because you have a cheese sandwich stuck to the back of your head."Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0
