I really struggle to understand global economics - I watch the news, read the articles, and somehow some part of my brain just can't compute it all
What is happening to the people in Greece is awful; it's scary to think that people are desperate for medications etc so comparatively close to home._pale_
I do wonder how the vast majority would cope in this country if something similar were to happen here - there are so many people who don't seem to know how to look after themselves properly, how to cook basic food from scratch etc.
I don't profess to be an expert by any stretch of the imagination but my grandparents were virtually self-sufficient in their own way (growing all their own fruit and veg, preserving/freezing/keeping an enormous storecupboard etc) and I learnt a lot from them, and I have certainly inherited their OS ways. If only pesky work didn't get in the way I would be very content to spend my days in domestic bliss, sewing, knitting, growing and cooking. Many of my friends and colleagues think I am old before my time but I am happy this way and I'm not harming anyone, so they are welcome to think what they like!
This has turned into a bit of a self-centred ramble - sorry! And thank you for bearing with me if you've got this far - if anyone can explain the economic crisis in words of one syllable for me, I shall be very grateful!

Great news slowlyfading, well done!:j
Evie:- We are up the Swanny! and the banks have the paddle!
Big worry this week is proposal by Brussels to limit cash withdrawls in cases of emergency. This is because the Spanish are taking their money out of the banks to the tune of 80millions this week alone. It would mean that any government could legally limit your access to cash if they felt it was going to damage the country's economy!! So you go to work and can't have your money! DD's would still work so bills would get paid but you could not have lots of cash!:eek:Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -

In really, really basic terms I think it's something like - countries have no money, so they need bailing out, but nobody has any money to bail anyone out, so nobody has a bliddy clue what to do.
That's basic beyond basic and not at all the full picture but it suited my 7 year old so it'll suit me :rotfl:Free basil seeds came today with the Lakeland brochure. Excellent, they're going in my herb trough - when it stops raining.
DH paid so paid another chunk off my gas arrears. I am determined to be even by September. There's no worse thought than going into the winter in debt. I feel like getting the prepay but the only thing stopping me is the value for money aspect - I have heard it's more expensive on the prepay. Does anyone know this. I'm with British Gas.0 -
Thank you Fuddle - I think you've pitched it at about my level!! :rotfl:

I cover the Eurozone crisis for work so I can do a beginners' guide if anyone wants it? I'm recovering from the flu - been off work for ten days, a real doozy - but I'm getting a bit better now so am prepared to bore for Britain given the chanceGrocery challenge September 2022: £230.04/£200
Grocery challenge October 2022: 0/£200
2012 numbers:
Grocery challenge - April £65.28/£80
Entertainment - £79
Grocery challenge March £106.55/£100
Grocery challenge February £90.11/£100
Grocery challenge January £84.65/£3000 -
Fuddle:- Pre-pay is very expensive, you pay more for the same amount of Gas.
Big worry is Germany's declaration that they will not loan money with out gaining extra concessions from the other countries. Blitzkrieg via the back door me thinks.:eek:Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0
