Gardenia - I do remember the riots,I'd just left home and was living in an attic flat in moseley, very young and scared stiff!
Had a lovely weekend in York and came home to.......no central heating(not a problem really)no hot water and no shower  and to top it all the printer threw a wobbly last nightI think I may get a barge on the canal:)

I mean, the past 2 nights I've felt a bit poorly and washed out and gone to bed with a hot bottle and this is allegedly Spring. Think my elderly down & feather duvet is losing it's mojo.
It's a washable one, apparently. Do any of you expert housekeepers know if it'd fluff up when washed and get warm again or has it reached the end of its lifespan? It had a 10 year guarantee and it's older than that. Don't think I could handle this kingsize quilt in the bath and nowhere to dry it and thus would have to pay to have it cleaned and don't want to throw good money after bad if it's down had lost it's bounce for good.
Probably worth investing in some special down cleaner and doing it at the launderette if you think it will fluff up.
I finally gave up on mine and use the (previously purchased bargain) spare instead. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Spring is always the same. You tend to think it should be gorgeous with blue skies and wee birds singing - but the reality is a glimpse of blue sky and then a soaking with icy rain or hail, repeated every half hour all day. I was very cold the other day GQ and spent the whole day dozing on the couch, think that was the ME.0

Having been out to school today I slept in between, I managed to throw a chicken casserole in SC this morning and was woken this evening to a gorgeous smell of casserole. It tasted heavenly which I am sure is probably due to it being the first proper food in ages,
I then headed for a bath and hair wash and whilst it is wonderful to have clean hair I am now so shaky I am finding it difficult to type.
Meal plans are all going to plan and its definitely so much easier when its all in place.
OH working tomorrow so my plan is simple, get kids up and to school then sleep until pick up.Eldest two are still ill, DD visited GP today and was given antibiotics for a chest infection.
Mardatha - I find with each year that passes both Spring and Summer disappoint me, only Winter seems constant.
GQ - we have never had down duvets, all us girls being asthmatic, but my recollection from friends is that after 10 years they "die".0 -
So glad you are resting when you can Kidcat, and that you at last had a good meal. Remember though not to do too much when you start feeling better, however tempting.
Hope you all are better soon, it's been a rough ride for you all.0 -
Gardenia I don't worry too much about the amount of dried onion I use but a tablespoonful would be about half a decent size onion.0

DD going to see her midwife for the first time today. She is very tired and is getting dizzy when going upstairs. I think she may be lacking in iron as she is only 11 weeks gone. My antidote is eating liver and drinking shandies made with stout, I can't tell you the look of horror on her face! :rotfl: She will eat broccoli but on its own it will not be enough. Just wait till the inevitably prescribed iron tablets get working and she get 'bunged up'! Pregnancy can be a pain all on it's own without the help of a man made one!
She could always try an iron enriched water called SpaTone. It comes in little sachets & most pharmacies will stock or, or should be able to order it in for you. It is quite pricey, but I found it excellent when I was pregnant - has enough iron in that my haemoglobin (Hb) level rose nicely within 3-4 weeks (as did other people who has used it) yet didn't bung me up at all. Some GPs & midwives are a little sceptical because it doesn't have as much iron in as tablets (this is why you don't get so many side effects), but having seen it work I am a fan. If her Hb is very low they may want to increase it more quickly though, which would probably mean tablets. Hope she gets on OK.That should be to Anguk not me, but I totally agree with you too, people always seem to have little jobs who can do bookeeping!
This is why I'm trying to retrain as a bookkeeper - although by the time I've finished my kids will not need childcare as I'm going so slowly! And I find that looking back at you gives a better view, a better view...0 -

Hope you're feeling a bit better now, Mar. I've been very very weary, too. Been crawling off to my pit at about 8-9 am and going straight off to sleep like a wee kiddie. Then resurfacing at 7 am and feeling as if I could curl up on the sofa and go off again.:p
My GP's receptionist just rang to cancel my blood test for iron levels this morning; the nurse has called in sick. She was terribly apologetic but I'm never anti with them; what happens, happens. It'll be done next week. I have been on iron tablets since January and have got past the usual symptoms, so to speak. I think they're helping.
Well, today looks like a re-run of yesterday; there is a livid sky which is about to drop some kind of precipitation, liquid or solid, and not very warm. I really ought to get off my aspidistra and do some chores but between the internet and the library books, there are so many distractions............
S'pose I ought to go get dressed. Have a good day, everyone.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I bit brighter today but wishing like hell somebody would find the cause of ME because I seem to know so many people whose lives have been ruined by it - but its not a serious life threatening thing so research rightfully has to take back seat.
The RV is driving me mad going on & on about the govt, I totally agree but am tired of hearing him go on and on... He thinks they have declared war on the sick and the poor and that things will just get worse. New figures out today re longterm jobless - we think it's a matter or time before they bring in a much wider scheme to force them to work for their dole money.
Sun shining here but I can see my breath outside so think I leave the garden another month LOL - and settle on the couch with ebay0
