I'm very sorry for that poor woman, of course I am. And any one of us would want to help out a daughter who had run out of fuel. But what was she thinking of, decanting petrol in her kitchen (which must have been a small confined space judging by the pictures of the house in the papers) next to a naked gas flame? I really don't see how the government can be blamed for that. Just a dreadful tragic misjudgementIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

MaryB I think people are blaming the government because of the[STRIKE] woman [/STRIKE] man edit, thought it was Frances with an E not Francis with an I, who suggested stockpiling petrol in cans at home.
I feel for her DD too, as the guilt will be terrible.
Common sense is lacking all round.0 -
kidcat i shall look at couriers, good idea, although not many come this far north/west. I'm wondering if by making more home items, clothes and family gifts I might save money, which is as good, if not better, than making it???
Silvasava thankyou for your kind words - it really feels like one step forwards and two backwards these days. You're right though, I am resourceful - shall have to give it some more thought.
Hope you get to see Harry Potter kidcat- prices are ridiculous aren't they?0 -
The advice was you should keep one can of petrol in the garage which is not unsafe. It's a tragedy but not one where blame attachesIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

WCS - I think you may be right, I know I worked out for my friend a few weeks back that if she used her hours making more, shopping about etc rather than working, it was likely she was working for almost nothing, by the time you added in petrol and childcare I really couldnt understand why she bothered.0

Byatt - thanks for your good wishes for tomorrow. Hope you'll be able to come to the next one (hoping there will be another one!)
I'm fine thanks - thank you for asking. My new medication really helps. I've got a hospital appt coming up in a couple of weeks for what I suspect may not be a very pleasant test - we'll see! DD3 is coming over from Cheltenham to be with me, as I'm not allowed to go home alone. (DD4 lives here in Bath, but will be away on holiday.)
Off to bed soon, but want to sew up a few squares first - making up blankets for the Cats and Dogs Home. Mustn't stay up too late though - big day tomorrow!Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!0 -
Because I had an appointment on Thursday in town I decided to fill up with petrol then. Pump kept cutting in and out and I thought it was the angle I was holding it. However, not even a mile down the road and the engine management light thingy came on and a referral to the manual suggest straight to the main dealer. They are coming next week to pick it up but think it might be contaminated petrol, which makes sense as the tanks at the garages must be empyting at a much faster rate and dredging up all the old gunge at the bottom.
I've looked it up on the net and if it is the petrol the garage must take a sample which must be sent to the SM CS dept. and I have to make a claim. It may not be the fuel, but the car has only done 5000 miles with not a problem of any sort, so it seems rather a coincidence. It's one way not to use fuel, though. Fortunately I did quite a bit of my shopping on Thursday although I was planning a bit more for tomorrow. Oh yes, and I work at home!
I hope you all manage to get a couple of weeks worth of fuel, just for that reassuring feeling but I can hardly believe the queues in some places - it was just a bit busier than normal on Thursday.Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

I must admit, I wondered whether people would have trouble with dreggy petrol but assumed it would be because their own tanks were running very low. What a pain for youIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Take a look at the 3 graphics. Now concentrate on the one at the left.
Does that make sense? Or is it just me?:D
ETA: re GreyQueen's comment: Tasked.
Do you mean the one with the ET-like hand touching the mouse?
I read it as being said No booking fees. From. Home.
In the way ET'd say Eee Tee Phooone Hooome. ET punctuates each word with a pause, hence the commas.
Just my take on it
It's only a game
