Irony, ladies, irony!!:rotfl:
Greent:- We have the same fridge freezer, we could not go back to a smaller one. I love the huge salad drawers.
There's another one! how many times do you see it spelt DRAWS. Oh the list is endless! BTW what is a Homophone?
PIC:- Great that you are out in the sun, backbreaking though it sounds! Pleased 'farm' is settling well. When will you get eggs?
GQ:- Yes! sear!
Shelley:- It's loads of fun when you have to sneak about to get things done!:rotfl:
Am feeling more up to scratch today. I have even put the first skirt of the year on. Needless to say, half an hour in bathroom first making legs decent! Am even planning an away day to the Lake District on Friday to make the most of this weather while I can. So I am off out to find a pair of wide fitting size 8 sandals, since old ones are falling to pieces! Not an easy find in my small townI will have to go further afield!
Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -

!
Homophone - draw/ drawer (yes - incredibly annoying!) - a word which sounds the same as another but has a different meaning. May have the same spelling, in which case there's not a problem - but errors arise when the words do not have the same spellingSpent a few lessons on homophones/ homonyms/ homographs/ synonyms/ heterographs at school and had regular on the spot tests - oh the joys of having a classically trained and very correct teacher.....:rotfl:
Back to the f/f - yes, I too love the two huge drawers. I couldn't imagine going back to a smaller f/f (well, maybe when it's just the two of us when they've all eventually flown the nest..)I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
Had a bit of a triumph here, OH got an e mail saying BT wanted £76 a month instead of £52 :eek::eek: thats for Broadband and phone so he put on his calm authorative voice and rang.... we got the package reduced to £31 :T:T:T after 32 years with the same company its about time we got something.
Im not very good at grammar although my IQ is high - think that bit of my brain is wired wrong but I do have pet peeves- lend/ borrow, teach/learn and chimley instead of chimney ??? OH is extremely good at all things punctuational ( is that a word :rotfl: ) and gets very irate yet has total patience with our Dd who is very dyslexic ( also high IQ-157 at 11 years old) and can understand her writing really well.
Off on a compost run which will no doubt to Oh buying more plants for 'his' front garden. Its fab here but a little cooler which is fine.Clearing the junk to travel light

Ahh, I'd never criticise someone for how they wrote something on here/ a blog (unless they were an English teacher or perhaps a journalist) - I make enough mistakes myself. Non-personal things which are destined for the public eye (posters, advertisements, newspapers, magazines, professional blogs or articles and similar) are different

I find as I get older I have senior moments and I look at something and I can't work out for a minute or two whether I have the right spelling, punctuation etc. Does anyone else look at a perfectly correctly spelled word and think it looks odd? Tends to happen when the same word has been repeated a few times in a short spaceIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Not that it matters, but searing meat doesn't seal in anything. You can tell that when you do it, as the 'juices' come out in the pan. What it does is caramelise the flavours (there's something complicated that goes on with the proteins - the river cafe meat book is very good on this) and that means deeper and richer flavours in any stew or slow cooked meal you use it in. This is why you should pre-sear everything, even something like onions or a whole chicken, as the flavours are so much better.Grocery challenge September 2022: £230.04/£200

Another one signing up for A.L.F. here and thank goodness it's not just me! Although I regularly had a chuckle at a road sign I passed every day when I was working "Road liable for flooding" - seems like that road has a secret life including a bank account :rotfl:
Thought I'd pass on a tip I found on the Greenfingered Board. I love the vacuum packed cooked beetroot that Aldi often have on offer for 39p/59p for 500g but there's only me to eat it and it goes off very quickly. Mix equal parts water and white wine vinegar, add a couple of spoons of sugar and bring to the boil, slice the beetroot and pack into a sterilised jar then fill with the vinegar mixture. As the vinegar's acidity is reduced this is not for long term keeping but it stops the beetroot going off without it becoming over-vinegary and just gives it a very light tang. I'm going to experiment with the liquor when the beetroot has been finished to see if I can use it to make some sort of sweet and sour sauce. And for those of us counting calories, etc, the sugar is in the vinegar, not the beetroot. Just had a pile for lunch to accompany a ham sandwich - lovely"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
My spelling has got worse as I've got older as I'm convinced a word doesn't look "right."
Meme thanks for asking what homophone was, I tried translating in my head, but it didn't help.
Moving around schools I missed the grammar lessons, or in some they were non existent! (Now I think I've not spelled, spelt? a word correctly). I'm worse than I thought! Does anyone get stuck with burnt, burned etc? I do look up words and grammar on the internet but then forget 5 mins later.
Talking of bees...I saved a Bumbulus Bumbus...I made that up :rotfl:...a bumble bee, as it was caught in the conservatory. It went into a folder I was holding up and then flew to freedom outside.
Well done Ginny on the phone reduction.I tried but nowhere near as good.
The last time I was cat sitting here, the weather was hot, hot, hot in the middle of September!...so as a treat, I'm going to sit outside with a book, Lynda La Plante, with just the sounds of birds and buzzing and a cuppa. Soul soothing. I should be eBay!ng or something ...but...0 -
Lets hope the temperatures last! I would [STRIKE]of[/STRIKE];) have happily arranged to meet - I know a lovely restaurant in Djurgarden (Bla Porten) but unfortunately we have our first "activity" on Thursday evening. We are there for such a short time that we are hitting the ground running. When do you leave? Wouldn't it be funny / ironic to have an MSE meet up in Stockholm?
Raining nowand cooler. So I'm working rather than going for a walk  We leave on Friday morning, so I don't think there is much chance of a catchup. However, I'm convinced that I'm more likely to meet some of my virtual contacts while travelling than at home - May includes Lisbon, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Oslo, Athens, Sofia and Nicosia, so you never know!
Enjoy the sunshine everyone, and save some for me!0
