I have an Oxo Goodgrips tin opener and can't praise it highly enough. It came from Lakeland and is fabulous.

Met a lovely lady today who came to pick up a bed we'd put on Freecycle. It's for her son, and in return she's putting his "baby" bed on there. To me that's Freecycle at its best.

Many thanks WCS for the linky, more stuff to wander round. I do like the blue theme, or do we call it teal now its fashionable? I dont go for trends but do like blue, as I have not got a tree yet - my old one died last year after many years in service, however since it lost a leg ( like my sheep annie :rotfl:) its been balanced in a tin kettle for a few years and begun to annoy me- I can pick a new colour and just recover my baubles etc to match.

Ok GQ your hand beats mine again, maybe I should just move next door and cadge food off you when the 'crunch' comes :rotfl:

It was 'poundland ' I went to today just checked the carrier bag which is now resplendant with my rubbish in the kitchen. I got Ainsley Harriots 'heaven bars', sort of a wafery chocolate thing and they are pretty good at a quid for 9 bars.

Right must soldier on a crochet :)

That is one shelf cleared out in my wardrobe for... more tins. Boyoboy - what have you all done to me :);)

Soups are on the list next.

Apparently, regarding onions making you cry, we're supposed to keep our mouth open and breathe through that as opposed to our nose. I've been told that it is the smell up our nose that makes us teary. I have to admit that I don't know if it works as I always forget and breathe through me snout!

re onions, I'm sure JO said to leave one end of the onion uncut, but I can't remember whether he said the neck end or the root end so not much use really ..... I'll shut up now :rotfl:
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

If I chop onions when I'm wearing my glasses I cry - but when I'm wearing my contact lenses I can chop loads with no effect whatsoever.

I was wondering if anyone else found that. I wear contact lenses and onions have no effect whatsoever. A bit drastic if you don't need them, but handy all the same :rotfl:

Are they varifocals? My optician warned me that in the beginning I should be sure to lower my head when going downstairs until I got used to them.

I am going round tomorow to see her will find out then.

I expect it looks pretty weird but I smear my moisturiser thickly under my eyes (like warpaint maybe) and under my nose (just plain weird!) and then I can chop kilos and kilos of onions. Perhaps it's some kind of placebo effect - "looking so foolish has to have a positive effect!" - but it does seem to work.

I'm looking for a bit of help if you can fellow threaders. DH is asking why I want to build up stocks of tins *ahem. I have told him just in case it snows badly but I'm wanting to go into it further.

Why is it that you all stockpile your tins?
  • Me because prices are going up all the time, so buying now instead of putting money in bank means I get more food for my money now than i would in a few months. Its the same as doing a fixed price tarrif for a set time on gas or electric, you can put off the time when you have to start paying the higher price. Its not my main reason for doing it but its what I tell all who think its mad to have more than a weeks supply in except when they do their monthly shop
