    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: fabulous name

I can't bake anything at the moment (back pain) but will keep suggestions for when I can.

I have never had prunes and custard but will give them a go

I used to have poo biscuits when younger (fig rolls) so may see if they have any of them.

DH has cooked a load of veg and baked beans and this morning he said the bedroom smelt like a cattle shed :o:o so hopefully something is going to happen IYKWIM :rotfl:

Just thought I would share a story with you.

A friend of mine has moved away from a cat charity and "gone it alone" she has opened her own charity shop and has monthly jumbles to which all the money goes to the cats in her care. She takes them in and pays all the vet treatment, food, flea and worm stuff etc she is a star.

On Tuesday she had a washing basket left on her front door step while she was at the shop. Her neighbours thought it was donations for the shop and thought no more of it. When she got home she found the basket had been taped up and there was a cat inside :eek:

She was furious!! It had been in there all day. No note, no name, nothing and he has what looks like a burn on his head :(

Well she has had him flea and worm treated and checked out with the vet and is on treatment for the burn. He has had some tuna and is quite content with his new temporary home.

The nice bit of this story is she has called him Pancake :D:D how great is that ???

So my best wishes are going to a remarkable lady with a cat called Pancake and I wish them both the best of luck.

    PIC x
  • Awww PIC, your friend sounds like a real star. Here's hoping Pancake finds a good forever home soon.

Ginnyknit sorry to hear about your aunt. But 98 .... wow! I hope OH is ok, maybe you could try him with some of the dyno-rod soup mentioned above. Having looked at the recipe, I can see how it got its name :rotfl:I have linseed on my porridge every morning, more for the essential fatty acids than the um cleansing effect but I imagine they serve a dual purpose!

PIC Pancake is a fabulous name for a cat! I hope he makes a good recovery. It sounds like word is getting round about your friend, though. Perhaps she could have a word with her neighbours to see if they would check any future parcels left on her doorstep, especially if it is a bitterly cold or very hot day, just in case this sort of thing happens again.

Gardenia sigh, I suppose you just have to go along with it but it's a pity you have to. I hope it's not any more unpleasant than it has to be xx

Where is Gailey? Has she been swamped by a mountain of birthday cake?

Well, the dogs are waiting patiently for their walkie so I'd better skidaddle. Saw my first daffodils in the park yesterday :D and it's very mild today so spring is definitely round the corner. Only another 31 days to the clocks going forward :D.

I remember being IN home economics...and I can vaguely mentally picture the room, and I remember the smell of cheap marg and really cheap cheese - but I don't remember anything we did there? How strange!

Maybe it was so horrendous you have blocked the memories :rotfl:

I was always held up as the example of How NOT To Do It in needlework - my charming teacher would actually walk around to my work, examine it, sigh loudly, then hold it up for the class to see usually accompanied by a stinging communtary on what I'd done wrong again. I think she did this with a few girls in various classes as she only lasted a year at our school. :D

Thankfully it didn't instil a hatred of sewing in me. I did help out at my DD primary years ago when the teacher wanted to teach Y1's to sew - as you can imagine I spent most of time threading needles, applying plasters & helping unpick a really well sewn glove puppet from the sewer's skirt :rotfl:. She was gutted as she didn't have time to sew the puppet back up properly - such a shame as she'd sewn it beautifully to her own skirt, stitches all the same size etc. Luckily her mum thought it was hilarious & her school skirt survived!

I also have to post my Student Loan deferment forms off as they are 3 weeks late, Ooops.

Don't know if you've had to defer before, but if I were you I'd expect the SLC to take the first payment out of your account even if you know you shouldn't be repaying. Even though I've sent back my forms the day after I've received them, & got proof of posting, they have been so slow in processing the deferment that for the last 3 years they have taken the first payment . They have eventually paid it back, but that has usually taken over a month.

I'm hoping that I'm in a minority as I've had real issues with the SLC & their inefficiencies, so now I cancel the direct debit with my bank so they can't take any money (that they shouldn't be taking anyway!).

Hope you don't get the same problems SDG.
I had enough of that at home thank you very much, so often played the wag on Fridays.

On the wag - haven't heard that for ages :rotfl:- love it! I had to explain what wagging it meant to a teacher at DS's school yesterday. She thought it had something to do with dogging  so it was a pretty wierd conversation.

I went to a girls grammar for the first 2 years of school, then a mixed comp - what a difference. Part of me wishes I could have stayed at my girls school, as I found the boys quite obnoxious & they seemd to dominate most of the lessons, & there were a lot more extra curricular activities at the grammar (but it did leave me with a hatred of Latin & I was so thankful to drop that - in fact my new form teacher laughed when I said I'd done Latin & advised me to keep quiet about it or I'd be "ripped to pieces if they thought I was a posh girl").

Apart from the huge academic differences, what I remember most was how "selfish" the comp was - we did a lot of charity work at the grammar, & we're far more aware of our local environment so spent afternoons clearing the litter on local streets, going to local primaries & helping children read etc. We were also a bit more politically aware too I think - yet if I mentioned how we'd helped out, I was laughed at & asked why, as I wasn't paid or hadn't got anything out of it (in their eyes). I learned to keep quiet.

Its a tough one - I see my DD (12) now saying she keeps quiet in class as she doesn't want to get laughed at by the boys, & get frustrated when she seems to keep getting the same work over & over because some of her class CBA or just don't get it, & so she gets so bored. If she'd gone to a more academic school, maybe she'd do better, but then she'd be under more pressure so that may cause a problem! Who knows? She has gone to the nearest secondary (no grammars here) & is mostly happy, so I am tnakful she is enjoying it - surely anything else is a bonus?
And I find that looking back at you gives a better view, a better view...

Yes think spring is definitely on the way we have snowdrops and some early daffs. FOUL day here though - basically at the mo we are in a low cloud. I can't see anything past the hedge opposite!

Already done some laundry, and washed the kitchen floor, dishwasher is on, hetty hoover is out and I had some HM GF drop scones for brekkie (can you tell it was my turn to get the man-cub out of bed and off to college at 6.30?)

Just looking at the news, which becomes increasingly something I should avoid doing, and waiting for inspiration about how to plan the rest of my day. I just hate it when, like today, I know I have today and tomorrow, and then I will be at work Sat, Sun, and Tuesday, OH wants me to go to the hospital with him Monday, and I'm off to an exhibition re work on Wednesday...so basically the next week is accounted for, and I'm the only one who does any housework....grrrr.

I was naughty with the Book People last night, but all cook books :o not sure if that is better or worse. Useful for me at work as I have my 'reputation' to uphold :p but I'm one of those people who will quite happily read a cook-book at bed time! They lured me in with a 10% off offer, and I did check that they were cheaper than on Amaz*n. Someone asked me yesterday how many cookery books I had...:o hadn't the foggiest idea, but :rotfl:at me asking OH and him saying 50!!!! I may have to count for my own curiosity!

Probably got more cookery books than Grey Queen has tins of tomatoes...:D

Off to take over the world.

Where is Greyqueen? Is she caught in the ether between dial-up and broadband still?

If you have a juicer - or can borrow one, then fresh beetroot juice will do the trick, I combine it with orange to make it more palatable. I think Aloe vera juice might do it too. i have also used psyllium husks from the health food shops.

I have also been known to go on a juice / soup fast for a day or two - only having freshly squeezed juices (i.e. that you do in a juicer) and a very thin soup - generally leeks braised in water and only drinking the water/broth. Grilled light fish with the leeks later on if you are really hungry won't do too much harm.
I wanna be in the room where it happens
