One thing about decorating, it's the easy stuff that comes out of the freezer first. Far too tired to cook properly. Luckily there is a few HM meals in there I can use. Just means I will be doing some batch cooking when the house goes back to normal again.
Back to seeing how many meals you can get out of 1lb of mince! Answers/suggestions/ideas welcome.

Another Appr*ved order is on its way. Will be here Friday, so we need to get a wriggle on to get sorted.

Speaking of wriggles...Well done on getting your own Knickers on PIC!

Back from the dentist. Was there 10 mins early, and then waited another 30 mins as earlier patient took longer than they expected. They did ask if I wanted to make another appointment but I knew I'd never go back if that happened. Anyway, I have a chipped front tooth; (here is where I blame ex for everything :rotfl:)...I fell over twice flat on my face when moving house, stress and whatnot, and chipped tooth in exactly same place...it got fixed, but then came out again, then fixed and came out again (the filling part)...this time they have suggested a crown.:eek: I have never had anything like that done before and to say I'm scared is an understatement! I'm not afraid of pain, just dentistry. I need a filling too which has come out, and another filling. I elected to have the crown done first. Oh and the hygienist. Does anyone know why white fillings are not done on the NHS?

Afterwards, I was pretty traumatised, but went to the local charity shops. Haven't been in these ones for about 2 years since moving here. It was like walking into Next or something!! Totally surreal. Prices to match but I did spot and buy a book called the Victory Cookbook, Nostalgic food and facts from 1940-1954 by Marguerite Patten in association with the Imperial War Museum, for £2!! It's brand new and was originally £12.99.

I did go shopping for food and got some YS items. Bananas for 30p a bunch. Large bag of potatoes about 45p. Organic beetroot, uncooked for 45p and there are around 6 beets. I love roasted beetroot. Some meat. I so need to get a freezer, as I just don't have room in my little tabletop one.
I noticed the worst people around the reduced section were older people. :( Totally, grab, grab, grab. Not nice peoples.

TDB, I do a fair few surveys, so will PM you shortly with a list and what they offer.

Docky, no my visit to Toofie Person was not so good, sad to say, I don't think I'm anywhere near as brave as Bruno was. xxx

Like a few others, I have avoided posting recently because it has all got a bit "political" for me. Not that I have any problem at all with people discussing politics on the thread, it just makes me a bit "twitchy" when things start to get potentially controversial (witness the last few posts) and I get worried we might lose the thread once again if it starts to get argumentative.

That's why I went back and edited my post :D

Meat and 7 veg sounds good to me!

Tryingtodobetter I think you have done very well with gift shopping. Kids that age really don't care if you've spent a fortune or a few pennies. I don't really do surveys or anything like that, I find it easier to save money than make it IYSWIM but if you do any crafts have you tried selling online?
  • Byatt Well done for not running a mile while you had the chance :T

I would have been gone like a shot :rotfl: My dentist is absolutely lovely and I have had her for years and years but I hate the blinkin drill in is the instrument of the devil

On the question of white fillings my dentist does them on the NHS if you can see them or if the silver ones keep coming out. I don't know if that is a hard and fast rule though.

The Mega Beast has reared her head at DHs work again. Poor s*d had to go into work 30 mins before his doctors appointment to which he walked in and was pounced upon by the force of evil. He has been told that his doctor is signing him off un necessarily and he is not to go off sick unless he has her permission :eek:

He is losing the plot, I have lost the plot and what I want to know is where do all these plots go ??

Why are some people so nasty? what do they gain? what pleasure do they get? grrrrrrrr

    PIC x
  • Why do posts suddenly appear? I read through and then later there are some that were not there before.......very confused.

Bobbykins I don't like conflict on here I got pounced on when I posted on the give up smoking thread. If you don't mind I'll join you in the corner out of the way ;)

Well we shall all have to make sure that doesn't happen. Let's just ignore anything political! I also would just like to say that it makes me very cross when people start banging on about people being on benefits in that holier than thou fashion, and I've quit more than one forum because of it...so if anyone thinks they will get a 'bite' here from me - for whatever pleasure they get out of it - they can think again. LADIES (and the odd gentleman, well not 'odd' but YKWIM :D) lets stick together and unite against benefit trolls!!! The support here is just too valuable.

Thanks PIC, I've had a phobia since a traumatic incident or 2 as a child. Remember the gas they would give when removing teeth? I recall it to this day. The mask coming over my face... The dreadul smell of it...

Sorry about the megabeast. (I won't give her any more power by using capitals) I've had the misfortune to meet one or two in my time. They do eventually get their comeuppance, but not without wreaking havoc and misery beforehand. How much power does she have? Why does she think the Dr is lying? Because in effect that's what she is saying. Is she like this with everyone?

    The Victory cookbook is so cool! For anyone worried about trying to find gifts;

A Christmas Gift: "...all...would welcome the gift of a portable hay-box. Soup, stew, sausage and mash...keeps food really hot in this box, for several hours. You can make a portable hay-box from a spare gas-mask carrier. It's very simple. Full directions will be sent if you write to the Ministry of Food." :D

    Recipe: Pigs in clover:

6 medium well scrubbed potatoes, 6 skinned sausages, and some cabbage.

With an apple corer, remove a centre core lengthways from each potato and stuff the cavity with sausage meat. Bake the potatoes in the usual way and serve on a bed of lightly cooked cabbage.

And did you know, that women need as much meat as men apparently (does this still apply?), as "daily wear and tear on the tissues is not materially affected by the kind of work done..." They have an outline of a tall, well built man and a little slender woman. It says "Do heavy workers need more meat?"

    Love it! :)

    Hi Everyone,
Just back from work - think I have a sore throat/ears on top of every else - typical!

PIC so happy you managed to get your pants on! I was thrilled when I was able to tie my shoelaces again properly - still have to do a dance in the mornings though to put my knickers on - shall have to resort to one of those grabby things soon:rotfl: makes me laugh myself sometimes as I hop up and down - it's a little like those wee games we had when we were kids where you have to get the wee balls in the holes!

Would love to use approved foods, but the postage up to us is really high. Went to the wee tesco at the garage on my way home - its the only one we have nearby, although we have a tesco metro where I work one day a week 50 miles away, and the only orange juice they carry is the one that is 2 for £3.00 - it really irritates me that they don't carry the cheaper lines. No wonder my grocery budget is so high!!! Need to try and be more organised when I'm away I think.

  • Talk of war and old posters has gone right over my head but I'm happy to stay off politics :D I didn't want to scare people, I just have what OH refers to as an 'argumentative nature'! I like to think I am big enough to get along with people even if I disagree with them, so long as they're not being bigoted or kicking people when they're down.

So, in other news: I now have a dedicated stockroom! Okay, it's a wardrobe, but you know what I mean! OH has gone from mickey taking to fully supportive (must be all that money I'm saving ;)) I'm afraid I don't have a stash of tinned tomatoes (does that mean I'm not really OS?) as we don't eat them, but I do have an impressive stash of tuna, loo roll and bread mix!
