Hope things setttle down with the bully.
Popped to shop yesterday to get bargains- Happy eggs, half price bacon rashers, cheese, couple of loaves and pints of milk to freeze.
Hoping this means I don't have to go out when it gets really cold. DD got back from mini break last night and we met her at airport then had huge green thai chicken curry with nan bread and rice when we got home. I had done all the prep earlier so it was quick to cook and everyone enjoyed it.
DH chuffed as we had lamb hotpot ( a la leftovers) with jacket potato and red cabbage for lunch. Will be using up mushrooms to make soup tonight and defrosted huge pack of mince for home made burger inna bun and plan to do apple crumble as well. Should be enough mince to make lasagne tomorrow.
Started coughing so have lots of hot drinks and keeping out of the cold while getting ready to spring into action just before youngest arrives home.
Hug to everyone feeling poorly."This site is addictive!"

Only big snag now as I am take Oxycontin and Oxynorm and they do not mix with Codeine unfortunately ( Serotonin Syndrome) so if one hits not long after taking them I am stuck and because of this doctor of course will not prescribe 30mg any more so am hoarding the ones I do have for really bad migraines - to be used by end if 2013. Its just annoying the Oxycontin and Oxynorm don't touch them at all but they don't make me feel spaced out, thankfully so far no bad effects from them just good ones like pain levels reducing. On plus side a specialist told me many years ago that migraines often go when you turn 55 ( I think I was about 32 at the time so it felt forever till 55 )and although not fully gone the amount I have now are far, far less so am hoping they do vanish before I run out of the high strength Codeine.
I have been tired this week but no major headaches, just niggly ones and today I admit I want a cigarette but not buying any, can't afford them anyway as hubbys hours down so much he only brought home £133 this week and its going to stay on that now.
Going to get him to nip me up to Mr S at 5pm when they reduce in the hope I can pick up some bits - not that the reductions are ever much. Its our nearest supermarket although Mr T is only half a mile further but I don't like their own brands, where as we do like nearly all of Mr S basics range. Unfortunately Lidl is 5 miles away and Aldi 7 miles so not worth the petrol so only go to either if I want one of their specials. When I put in my usual shop in mysupermarket Mr S has always come out cheaper for us. We do have a Mr M a mile away but again don't like a lot of their stuff. We do have a small shopping centre a mile away as well but at the moment I have no energy to walk round all the shops there as you need to, to pick up the cheapest items. Could take my scooter but have to admit am a bit nervous using it in a closed environment and although all shops are supposed to be scooter and wheelchair accessible some are rather small or have narrow aisles - especially 99p shop. I don't really want to go out due to lack of energy, and hubby trying to talk me out of me, to him shopping should be done once a week at most unless you already happen to be out for something else, but need to see if can get anything we use reduced, so got to try and do it daily. Daft thing is no energy yet cannot sleep much, only got two hours last night and they were broken and 3 hrs the previous 4 nights and for some mad reason I cannot seem to fall asleep till around 4am even if like Sunday night I am in bed by 9pm I just lie there awake but to tired to even sit up. You would think after 14 years I would be used to times like this but doubt I ever will be, one plus is pain levels are low at moment.
Right enough moaning, better go and have a shower it usually makes me feel a bit better for a while as we have to have evening meal around 4pm as hubby has his bowls tonight and so no time to have it after popping to shops - well most people could but he is a very, very slow eater and as its beef sweet and sour I made in sc yesterday I am reheating it and easier to heat the lot at once than some for him then mine later. I defrosted 500g of stewing beef on Tuesday night and put half in one sc and made into chilli beef and other half in my second sc and made into the beef sweet and sour, had rice with the chilli beef so having pasta tonight. Not that long ago I would have used the whole 500g for just us, yet I used to use same amount of meat to feed 5 of us, I just never cut down when children moved out at long last am learning.
Stay warm if you can indoors and out,
hugs to all
That's interesting. I have noticed my migraines have improved/reduced since mid 50's although I still get the aura and woolly headedness, don't get the pain (thank God)...had migraines since a child. Poor DD suffers from them now.
I also understand about the cutting down now just me. I still bought for 3 of us for a long time and cooked the same as for 3! :eek:0 -
Ooohh prepareathomme I really feel for you with your Migraines - you really can't describe how they absolutely poleaxe you. Mine started at 5 (honestly - cos that was the start of the codeine linctus among other things) until I was about 18 - then nothing until I hit the menopause & they came back with a vengeance - until I was 55! Fingers crossed - nothing since then - phew!
Did anyone listen to Jeremy Vine at lunchtime - about the final letters of soldiers. I was in tears it was so poignant & heartbreaking. Makes you value what you've gotSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Hi all, just popping on to mention a voucher offer - today's Sun newspaper, so you'll have to be quick - £6 off on a £40 spend at Mr M's, valid for a few days - worth it if you're going anyway. I managed a bill of £40.53, adding up all the way round - have tried this in Mr T and always gone over, plus headache to boot, so quite pleased with myself. Sugar now 99p!!!
Sorry if this has already been mentioned, haven't had time to read all posts today.0 -

It was marketed for teh "safe & effective sedation for children of all ages" & includes a dose for under 1's . Does that bottle of Oblivon list the contents? I think perhaps not or everyone would have asked the pharmacist to make some up for them so it would have been cheaper. I think I could do with that stuff about my person from time to time. I could use something to diminish acute apprehension.
Speaking of chloroform, or rather not but in a sideways fashion: does anyone remember those chest-sweets that contained ether? They were rather nice from memory, very warming and I could chew my way through a packet at a time way back when. Happy days! Now, what were they called?0 -
Shuddering at the thought of cough sweets with ether
I could not handle fisherman's friend or Vicks sweets. Wonder if they worked better than the modern stuff?
Meal is cooking so browsing on here for a while. DH just drove me to Mr S to look for yellow stickered stuff. Got reduced price chicken thighs, lamb mince, diced beef for casserole, couple of pork chops and small lamb chops - all now in freezer for main meals later in the month. Not a huge saving but better in our pocket than theirs.
DH impressed by idea of three course meal tonight so won't disillusion him of the idea of being spoilt by saying I wanted to use up veg and cooking apples;)"This site is addictive!"

Yes, they did! Also quite useful for whiling away an hour or two feeling quite "relaxed".
What were they called? Came in a red foil packet and the sweets were not too strongly-flavoured, light-brown (medicinal-looking. Woo!) opaque and square. This is really annoying me now, not being able to remember. I fancy a packet or two right now.0 -

Victory V is a British brand of liquorice-flavoured lozenges. Originally manufactured in Nelson, Lancashire they were devised by Thomas Fryer and Edward Smith MD in the mid-19th century and were initially made by hand to ensure that each sweet contained the correct amount of therapeutic ingredients; ether, liquorice and chloroform. In the 1960s they acquired the Alverthorpe firm of A.Talbot and Son. Victory V lozenges are available in specialist shops and online, but no longer contain chloroform or ether. However, their scent and flavour is still vividly reminiscent of diethyl ether - presumably recreated via artificial means, in order to preserve the original flavour. Today they are manufactured by Ernest Jackson & Co. Ltd. in Devon.
No relaxing on them now sadly as I doubt the artificial flavour gives the same effects even if it does give the same flavourNeed to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

VICTORY Vs! You are a clever one Shelley-Crowe. Many thanks for putting me out of my misery. No chloroform or ether? What's the world coming to? There's no cheap fun to be had anywhere any more. Where's that vodka bottle?0
