Ha Ha Ha....one of my dogs had the best of our strawberries! I watched one day as Mattie strolled over to the plants and buried her nose in the greenery, I went closer and said "What you doing Mat Mat?" she'd got a big fat juicy red strawberry in her mouth and she looked up at me sideways and pulled it off and ate it! I went in and told OH and he said that explained why all the nearly ripe berries he left for 'one more day' had gone by the time he went to pick them! We thought it was birds. We net them now but she still gets under!

Both the dogs are very partial to carrots, I've told OH to make sure they don'e see him pull them up or I wouldn't put carrot snatching past them either!

Ha Ha Katie Thankfully both of my Dogs don't like Strawberries.
Had to laugh as i put a net over the Carrot box and he got that of! so i tried covering witha HM Cloche and he got that off too!! so in the end we gave up, the strange things was he had never sen us pulling up any carrots but boy oh boy he knew what to do. He would Pull them then take them onto the grassed area and eat all but the carrot top's:rotfl::rotfl:

i am a tea addict and it needs to stop. Hopefully i'll lose weight as my energy levels should go up, maybe i should allow myself four instead of the usual 10 + cups hmm.

Well better get off my behind and the bread made, see if i can defrost the clothes off the line.

Have you tried Rooibos tea (redbush)? It is the only one i drink (at home anyway). Naturally caffeine free and tastes very similar to "proper" tea. I started drinking it one year when I was detoxing and just couldn't give up normal tea. Now I don't drink anything else - at home anyway. We even took some with us to South Africa (where it comes from :rotfl:) to make sure we didn't go without!

I have just bought a load on the "buy one get one for a penny" deal from Holland and Barrett, along with a years supply of vitamins and cod liver oil. I spent £70 but saved nearly that!

Thanks for the YHA heads up - I will check it out.

Gailey plastic greenhouses are fab as long as you weight them down and tie them to something. My first mini one had me so excited I didnt think about it, stood it one the patio, grew 100's of seedlings then it blew over and tipped them all in a tidy heap on the floor. Now I have a paving stone on the bottom shelf and have it tied to the wall too. I havent even opened my new walk in one yet but think it will be easy to fasten down. I also put the covers in the shed for the winter to try and preserve them.

another vicim of a flying plastic greenhouse here....
NOW.. I always pop a growbag in the bottom, great for herbs/tomatoes etc and only need to remove the grid shelving as the plants get taller - usually about the right time to be planting my lil plants in their trys out.

    Hi gailey :)

Hows it going? are you okay? Hows the children? Can't believe your youngest daughter is 2 already! How quick time flies.

Thanks for YHA membership tip, just phoned up so hopefully will arrive soon:D

I'll look in town for that tomorrow vj, thanks for that.

I have completely failed to day with the no more than 2 cups, my friend came over and ended up having two cups of coffee and a few digestive biccies. So three cups today, :o.

Still haven't got the clothes, as they were frozen and thought it too blumming cold to go out there. but have made the chicken stock and have loads of bread and buns in the oven so its not all bad at least.
  • Hi everyone:) Been reading just not posting. Lovely to see new people too, welcome:) My dh is back in work again. So relieved at that. I watched Call the midwife and loved it. Can't wait to watch the next episode next Sunday. I got a few books the other day, and one of them was written by the woman who wrote Call the Midwife(Jennifer Worth) Her book is called" Shadows of the Workhouse" This book is about the true stories of the people she met. Jennifer was a midwife in the 1950s and joined the East End of London, where many people's lives were touched by the shadow of the workhouse. How those poor people coped is beyond me.

I was just about to suggest rooibos tea too Kezlou, but VJsmum beat me to it. I've been drinking it for about 10 years now and find it an excellent substitute. I drink normal tea when I'm out and about and find it very strong now in comparison.
I didn't know about the H&B offer though, so thanks for mentioning that VJsmum :)

We have a little plastic greenhouse and love it, but second what everyone else says about weighing it down. It's great for getting things started in, and if you keep a pot of cut and come again salad leaves in there you can almost see them growing on a sunny summer's day. We also kept a couple of chilli plants in there last summer, and they ripened much better than the outdoor ones. I'm hoping to get a proper greenhouse this year, but haven't really got the cash at the moment. I'm hoping one might turn up on Freecycle, though I've never seen one on there yet.

Re the 16 hours thing - above 16 hours certain employee rights kick in re holidays etc. I think that National Insurance does not kick in above 16 hours - it is dependent on how much is earned no matter what the hours are.

Margaret, that is such good news about your dh's job. It must be such a relief. :T

Thanks SS for the heads up about the YHA, I'm far from being a youth :rotfl:but it will be a good way to have some breaks with my DD. They were lovely on the phone and are sending me a family card.

SS your story about your dog eating, well pulling them up and eating carrots, made me LOL. He sounds such a character, what a smart dog as is katieowls' strawberry eating dog. Who says animals are dumb. :D

I'm at my DD's tonight as she is home tomorrow, and I thought I would finish off the tidying up I left before Xmas; somehow, it doesn't look so bad, and in fact my home is worse. There's a moral in this story somewhere! :o:o Great timing though weather wise as it is very cold tonight; as confirmed by 2 gritters throwing grit over my car!

One of my cat sitting kitties died; I heard today from the owner. An absolute dear of a cat, she was a veteran but filled the house with her presence.
  • Stillstruggling 3 of us went to Whitby, my husband 10 year old son and myself. We went on a special deal, still available on their web site which included the family room and a family feast ( dinner ) for £30 a night. There was a very large and well equipped self catering kitchen.
Other people were clearly self catering but the cafe was reasonable as well. 24 hour access to hostel and room.
